Been waiting on a 200 hp mercury forever. Why aren't there any motors available? Not understanding if you have a demand for a product, why aren't you making that product. If my boat wasn't already rigged for a Merc I'd definitely buy a competitors engine,.

If your dealer was any good he would help with the re-rigging. BTW, how long is forever?

Several reasons, none of which have much to do with production. They ARE making that product. Orders for V6/V8 engines are running really high and have been for months, Mercury Marine's/Brunswick Boat group sales are going very strong.

There were thousands of boats destroyed in storms and floods across the country and around the World over the last couple seasons, and those are being replaced by insurance companies with the usual lag time. Couldn't get a Yamaha big bore for a looooong time as a result, they suffer the same issues. I know some folks who jumped to Evinrude due to the fact they could get one and it's a well built engine....they all are these days.

Gauges, cable, etc can run you north of $5000...they would all need to be switched. Saw Gillespe at the ramp...He was claiming some have been backordered 12 months. Going on 4 months for me.

I know Mercury is hiring, trying to fill jobs. I lived in Fond du Lac before retiring and at the peak of the recession about 10 years ago, the average age of their production workers was about 55. They have more than doubled the size of work force since then but filling all the spots left by retiring baby boomers has to be a real challenge. They have been investing $10s of millions in plant and equipment over the last 7 or 8 years, trying to gain productivity and quality. But, they are not going to compromise quality to pump out more units.
