It is 61 degrees at the Rhinelander Airport here today. What is WITH this? I see on the long range forecast from the National Weather Service there is a weak El N what the heck forming, wonder if that will give us another dry, warmer winter.

Not sure what to expect, but I just got my new Frabill portable ice shack, and WOW what a piece of equipment!! Bucket seats, room for two in what is known as a SOLO, and light/strong. Those guys really have their stuff together. So, I guess ice will not be too bad a thing!

Here in N. IL we are supposed to hit 85 degrees today. Saturday calls for 70's and thuderstorms.

Well boys & girls,

I have plans to head up to Vilas over Halloween weekend. I was figuring water temps would average around 45°, now I am not so sure!

Just looked at the long range forecast for this area, and your Halloween weekend looks like a cold weather deal. That Saturday's high is 38--but they rarely get tomorrow right so what are the odds of them getting two weeks from now even close.

I remember the talk a couple weeks ago of an early freeze up, I think this weather has put that idea to bed.

Gorgeous weekend to be in Vilas county! Air temps near 70, good chop, water temps in the upper 40's low 50's. Awsome musky and walleye bite this past weekend. BUT.......

The weather in northern Wisconsin changes like a woman's moods..fast and hard! The last 2 years on Halloween weekend we had a heep of snow and cold temps....it might be 75 today in Vilas co, but tommorrow it could be 40 with sleet.

I winterized one boat and kept the other rigged and ready just incase we can hit open water yet by mid Nov...but my prediction is that we'll be ice fishing by Turkey day.

Farmer's Almanac says winter will be colder and snowier than last year. I didn't pay any attention to the October part of the forecast, as I froze my butt taking my boat out too late last year and didn't plan on doing a repeat of that this year!

I will take the warmer weather. The warmer the water this time of year, the better the trolling for me anyway. I can also fish longer into the year too, no closed season. Stay warm!
