I don't know whether someone has asked this before (I couldn't find the topic) but I was wondering which are the best shad-shaped crankbaits. I liked my old bagley but those are the only ones I tried myself besides the 5" tuff shad. I read that hooker shads are great as well. I'm loking for baits in the 5" range for trolling

You might want to try the Rapalas Super Shad Rap if you haven't already.

Have a look at the 7" deep diving Slammer's - beauty of a bait. If shallow/ twitching is a possibility look at the 5" Slammer's. Great baits, although the hooks and split rings need upgrading.

I have a Rapala Super Shad Rap that is all tore up and still works. They are like American Express, when musky fishing don't leave home without them... Crane has a shad shaped bait that has a great action. Lindy used to have one.

Slammer makes a 6" deep diver too and has a 6" drop belly he made special for the shows last year.

I have a bunch of hooker shads and they are nice. They suspend/sink slow and do not have the vibration the bagleys do. They do catch fish though I seem to catch them when trolling on the inside or outside planer on an inside turn.
