I don't want a post that's going to be pulled. Please don't go off about Jim Wilson and his business ethics. I just want a brief outline of his lure's action, weight, opinions/comments, etc.

Thanks,
MJB

I really love the 8 inch Hugheys and the 6 inch Shakers. They are all different, but pretty much do the same thing, "GLIDE AND HANG"

The eight inch shakers are pretty sweet, but I just prefer the 6 inchers.

I don't have the thin shakers, nor have I thrown one, so I can't comment on those.

The 6 inch Hugheys also have a quicker glider than than the 8 incher, for obvious reasons. I enjoy these, but like the 8 inchers is my favorite.

I would HIGHLY recommend these lures, they are built great and easy to work. They are not too heavy, so you can chuck them all day. But watch out, as soon as you buy one, you'll have to buy 10. That's just the way it goes.

Thanks Mike. Does the clear coat get torn up pretty easily or does it take quite a few fish to retire a bait?

Thanks,
MJB

I have had some excellent and some not so excellent experiences with the clear coat on these lures.

One of the best things you can do is: 1. keep a bottle of clear finger nail polish on the boat, and the first sign of wear, put a few coats of the fingernail polish on it. Or 2. Buy a can of Spray Envirotex, takes longer to dry, but puts a great clear coat on.

Over all, I would give the clear coat a: B-
Which in my opinion is pretty good. You will have to catch several, crazy fish to ruin the clear coat. Just remember to inspect them and touch them up when you see any signs of wear.

I have tried almost all the HR lures. I bought my first ones from R&H's before the problems, and then a few more from JimW at a Muskie Show in MN. I bought more from Thorne Bros and now just watch Ebay.

I like all the lures and would agree with Mike's run down on action and quality. One thing I have noticed, the Hughies run the deepest (7-8) then the Shakers (5 +/-) and then the Enchanters (2-3) with the TopPrey (surface) finishing the water column. Speed of retrieve will effect their running depth also. With a quick retrieve I can bulge the surface with the Enchanters.

They are great lures! If you want to save a few bucks -- You can go with Manta's, Cobb's, Blitzen Shads, Drop Belly Gliders, Phantoms, Magic Makers or other gliders that don't have the price tag of a HR, but still catch fish. The HR lures just have a great paint job, and seem to work easier in the water. Even with a $65.00 lure, you still have to be in the right place at the right time.

I own a couple of all models. My favorites are the small versions of all of them. The bigger ones work but I just like the smaller ones. My most favorite of the bunch is the head down belly roll action of the 6" Ehchanter in bullhead color.

Never seen a bad one yet like you see with some gliders. They all work but like luke said, I like the small ones too.

I also own several, from 6 inch Shakers and Hughies to the same in 10 inch, and find them relatively easy to work, once you get the hang of them. But one intersting method is to just slow reel them all the way back - they have a very lazy side to side glide.

I owned one fished it for a year never saw crap on it, I though the fish would jump in the boat for the cost and hassles of getting that one bait. I donated it to the Ashton fund and it finaly produced $65 for them. ;)  My ethics won't let me give the guy another dime, ther are so many good baits on the market that are much better.
