| How often have you fished tournaments? Just curious to what degree folks here fish tournaments. |

| Always loved the tournaments, I am a kinda competitive sort and love musky fishing so it fills both holes. Most don’t see the social aspect, but it’s like the folks who follow horse shows, car racing, gun shows, whatever. It’s a chance to travel on summer weekends with a bunch of folks you have a lot in common. Many good friendships are forged. I recognize the negative too but it’s far from the facts. Naturally, nobody forces you to participate, we’re not communists. |

Location: Athens, Ohio | I'm adverse to several concepts: the idea that it it 'time' to start fishing, and 'time' to STOP. To me, it's always me against the fish, not me against you to 'win' something. I 'win' every time I get to go fishing!
That said, I did enjoy being tournament director for MI Region 3, it was a thrill for me to watch the other anglers enjoy the events. m |

I don't like the pressure I'm under fishing competitively in a tournament, but have really enjoyed fishing weekly leagues. Main issue now is time, we are gone so much it's near impossible to fish one these days.
My favorite is the Kevin Worrall Memorial, an inspiring show of support for charity and community. |

| Done a few club tournaments over the years. Hayward Challenge, Pewaukee Challenge, and the FRV (our club) tournaments.
I don't care much for the crowds or the competition, but when you know a bunch of the people fishing it, it's a lot of fun. The downside is when you miss or lose a fish on a normal day it's just "aw #*#*" and few laughs over how dumb you are. Hurts a bit more when there's money involved.
As for the pressure? Bah. The number of people fishing most of those lakes over the course of a season dwarfs a tournament. Besides, the cub tournaments are usually fundraisers for stocking and such, so they probably do more good than harm.
Something like the PMTT? Maybe one day. Seems like it might take some of the fun out of fishing. And as a guy who struggled for years of being on a mission to catch a bunch of fish and getting mad when things didn't go well? If it's not fun, you're doing something wrong. Sooo glad to be over that "crap I lost a big fish, there goes my day!" crap.

Location: SW Ohio | Fished the PMTT the last couple years. Only Cave Run the first year but the whole trail the next two. Probably won't do it again next year. It's been fun but frustrating at the same time. Not enough vacation time, trips are too long when they are held up north and not particularly fond of how the whole thing is run. Not sure how they've managed to stay alive for 21 years. But that is just my opinion.
I'll probably start fishing the local (OH/KY/IN) Muskie Inc tourneys next year instead of running the PMTT Trail. May need back surgery and that will eat up a week of vacation or more unless i can get on short term disability thru work. |

| I am equally into bass and muskies, so I am not taking sides here. But I always laugh how many of the bass guys want to impress everybody with the fact that they fish tournaments. On another forum that I frequent, many many questions are answered making note that the respondent fishes tournaments.
Q: What speeds can I expect with brand x boat with x HP and size x prop?
A: With a full tournament load, I'm getting about 48 MPH.
Q: How many rods do you bring in the boat?
A: I bring 27 for tournaments and 5 when I am the co-angler.
Q: Do you use a trailer hook on spinnerbaits?
A: Only in tournaments.
Many fishermen even believe tournament anglers are superior to non-tournament anglers. How many times have you heard, "So and so is a really good fisherman. He fishes tournaments and everything." In reality most tournaments are fun tournaments with relatively small entry fees and small payouts with average weekend warriors such as myself participating.
I used to do most of the Rollie and Helen's tournaments, the Hodag and another annual tournament in Minocqua years ago. It has been many years since I have done a tournament of any kind. I'm not good enough to be competitive and I think there is too much pressure to succeed involved. I prefer no pressure and no stress of leisure angling and being able to be on the water at the times that I choose.
