My wife was nice enough to buy me a new digital camera for my birthday a two weeks ago. She must have coated it with no-fish spray, because I am on the worst streak I have had all year. Four trips now and I still don't know how to use the camera.

What is the average break in period on new photographic equipment?

One has to sneak the thing into the boat. Put it in a ziplock bag, and sort of just accidentally add it to the rig about 5 days in advance. That seems to work. Certain failure will occur if you forget the camera, turn around and go back home for it.

The key is to not put batteries in the camera. Take along an extra flashlight and keep the batteries in there. When you catch a fish, take the batteries out of the light and put them in the camera. The fish don't pay any attention to the camera as long as it's not loaded.
Jeez, do we have to teach you everything!

What I do is go bass fishing with it first. Get a dozen or so shots, and then it's ready for musky.

And you can never go back to the house for the camera, only the net, definite curse.

Good fishin',

NO NO you guys got it all wrong, you have to show the fish your license so they know you are fishing legally and the camera so they know that you will just take thier portrait and release them, while fishing playing Englebert Humperdink's "Please Release Me" may help also

John,
Being from Illinois, you probably haven't been raised having to learn the cultural differences between muskies in the north woods and flatlander fish. Showing the camera is about the same as inviting someone from India over to eat steak, it's insulting and shows a lack of respect for their ideologies. Muskies believe that their soul will be captured by the camera and permanently attached to the likeness of themselves in the photo. This, they believe, would make them a slave to your fishing desires.
It's fall now, and there are options for tricking muskies into feeding, showing them a camera is not one of them. If, for example, it's a particularly slow day you should turn to your fishing partner and ask him why there aren't any ducks flying. This will carry through the water to the fish and they will now assume that you're duck hunters and resume feeding!
