Any of you on here lately? We have a couple small lakes with them in North Dakota USA. The main lake gets to 55 feet of water and I have seen a 15 or so pound following my 4 inch jerkbait. Anyways reason I am asking is there are now many in the 7-8 pound range, what style of lure and size should I throw? I kinda want to get into my Muskie gear some to stand out from the guys throwing a 1/8th ounce jig and 3 inch twister tail.

Water temp is about 45* any speed suggestions?

I state that all the big zander that I caught were random catches catching pike ... I took them mainly to trolling with crank up to 12 " shallow.... I found them especially in spring between May and June suspended in open water doing swim the baits within 10 feet

The trolling speed is around 3mph, the best time is when the water temperature is between 59 ° F and 70 ° F

For big zanders the go to method is, "pelagic sharp shooting" its not for everybody.

But essentially you go around looking for individual fish big on the sonar, and lower a jig with a small softbait. down to about 3 feet over it, hopefully it rises and takes it.

Its a lot of sailing and not much action time, but it is the GO TO method for getting the big fatties.

My Pb is 16.88lb came that way, its heartstoping exiting when i big arch, starts to rise to the jig.

There are a bunch of videos on how to do it on youtube, the once on Kanalgratisdotse channel, are quite nice and informative. Usually its good just prior to the spawn, as the big females gather in front of the spawning areas suspended over deeper water, waiting for the right water temp for spawn.
Here is a link to one of the videos.

Good video. We apply this for muskies already but maybe I can fine tune my approach.

Nice, ive have tried it a ton of time for Pikes here, but for some reason i don't tap into the bigger fish doing it. i do a lot better casting structure when it comes to getting big fish.

Cicciospin and his friends catch huge zander trolling for pike, I've seen some of the photos. They have caught zander over 40 inches long, real monsters. I was hoping to catch an accidental zander while we were pike fishing but water was a little cool. Monster pike in Italy, caught a 41" inch pike with a huge girth, way over 20 pounds, along with several other decent pike and have seen pictures of some huge specimens. Cicciospin has caught a zander on a pounder bulldog, he really likes big rubber baits. Francesco and and his friends are some of the best deepwater suspended pike fishermen I've ever fished with and are very nice guys, plus Italy is beautiful. I had a great time fishing with them.

I did try side scanning 30ish foot water and saw a couple single suspended fish and turned around on them, found one but it disappeared when my lure got close the other I never found. Will probably try it again. Was cool dreaming of what it could be

Sounds like its just a question of keeping at it already, I like to stop the bait, approximately 3 feet above the fish,

sometimes I have also fished in vertical, the problem with the zander is that it tends to follow the bait a lot and eat a few times ... for that type of fishing I use fins fish 10" with 1oz or 1.5oz jig head
