Location: Hoboken, NJ / North Webster, IN | Unfortunately, I don't get out Muskie fishing but 3-4 times a year, but I'm going next week in the Northern Ind lakes. The area I'm going was in the 40's last week, will be in the upper 70's this weekend, and back down to the 50's(30's at night) when I get there. Typically, or historically what will this do to the fishing? |

Location: Chippewa Falls Wisconsin | I would love to help you on this but....I am not the one to ask since I was wrong last week thinking the warm front would turn them on. hahahahha
All you can do is try, every system has its nitch. Some lakes are hot now, others are not. All you can do it try lots of different methods.
The fall colors will make it worth your trip. |

Location: Shoreview, MN | not sure, but we've alreday had the warm spell here in MN and the general concensus is that the fishing has slowed down. Slow moving baits (and topwaters) in the shallow, weedy areas had had some success.
If you hit it right the approaching cold front might really turn the fish on. |

Location: Kalamazoo, MI | We fished indiana last weekend(webster), at the end of the cold. We only managed two follows all day, one came on a big shallow (5-9ft) flat, and the other over a pretty steep drop(from 12ft to 25ft). Neither were very big at all. The only fish we heard about being caught, were caught early in the am on topwater in shallow water near a dropoff.
I was with Jason on this one, I though the warm weather, coupled with the moon phase, would really turn things on. The only difference, is I dont think it has instead turned things off. I think it has made the fishing tougher, because the fish are moving more now than they were in the cold weather when they were holding to more predicatable patterns. Next week isnt suppose to get that cold in this area, still upper 50s to lower 60s. By then things will probably have stabilized a bit, and I am still of the opinion that even though the fish may be more mobile in the warmer water, they will be more actively feeding as well. Next week will still be good as far as the moon goes too, if you believe in all that stuff.
If it were me, id plan on working the tops of dropoffs and shallow water next week in Indiana lakes. Thats the pattern we'll be fishing in Michigan unless we stop seeing fish.
Then again, Ive only been musky fishing for a year, so what the heck do I know! So far the only thing that has been consistent for us where musky fishing is concerned, is inconsistency. |

Ditto from her in NJ. I thought the warm front would turn things on here as well, but had no action on a shirtless October day yesterday. I can't wait for the cold rain on Sunday.
Did you get a chance to try out Monksville yet ?

Unfortunately not yet on Monksville....I still hope to get up there before everything freezes up(assuming it does), but like I said before, without a car or boat it's damn tuff. How late have you fished the Jersey lakes? Through November?
My father got two on Webster yesterday...and hadn't caught much the previous weeks, so who know what the weather will do. |

| Here in MI's Upper Penninsula, I was moving fish throughout that first cold snap you mentioned, then the warm weather slowed 'em down to nothing. I tried everything but jigs.
Our local water temps bottomed out in the way low 50*s a week ago. This heat wave has brought them back up to 59* as of this afternoon. After reading the posts above, my hunch is that we all need the water temps to steadliy decline again. |

Location: north central wisconsin | It can't do anything but help the fishing at this point here. One thing I noticed was that during the warming trend the pressure was very high too. Things are dropping now, and we have a front or two acxcross most of midwest. Things should pick up for the weekend warriers. When in doubt though, try a river.
