Location: Roscoe IL | This is a general question to see what choice of topwater some would choose over another. As the season get's closer I'm working on my tackle and discovered I have way more plop plop style baits compared to a walk the dog or creeper style.
This got me thinking. I got my first muskie on a creeper but seldom use them when I choose to go with a topwater.
In what situations would some consider using a creeper style topwater. When it's dark being the most obvious, outside of that is there a water condition or weather condition that would have folks consider a creeper?
I guess the same would be asked on a walk the dog style VS a Plop Plop. Why go with one over the other? |

| A prop style topwater can be used as a search bait. If a musky follows a prop bait, and does not strike, if you return later, I would throw the creeper. Also, the calmer the water, the more I would lean towards the creeper and vice versa. Kdawg |

| I like the plop plops for covering water, or something like a jackpot that you can work very quickly. I'll switch to a creepers or a bigger slower walk the dog if the fish are blowing up on or missing the tail props. Also good for a throwback when they're just following tail props or coming in late. About the only time I'll start with a creeper is low light/dark water/flat calm situation. I'm sure they're effective, but I don't really throw them much because fishing that slow and listening to that bloop bloop bloop noise get boring pretty quickly. |

Location: Chisholm, MN | I pretty much only use slow topwater baits. Hogwobblers, flaptails, maybe a creeper and sometimes walk the dog. I own some prop baits but they don’t see as much action. I personally think a buck tail can take the place of a prop topwater and get better hooking percentage. Others may disagree but that’s what I do. To me, topwater is meant for going very slow and drawing out a big fish and making her eat when other fast baits are just too much for her. I have been know to throw a hogwobbler all day. It’s painful for some, but I enjoy catching fish  |
