I picked up a floating Salmo Fatso this weekend. I only fished it a little while, don't think I was fishing it right. Any tips on leader to use and how to fish it?

Thanks,

John

I picked one up at Reeds this summer, the weighted version. What an unbelievable bait. I worked it as a twitchbait. My cousin missed a 50 plus, and the next morning, I got a 45. Great bait.

Basically the bait wobbles on a pull or twitch. The harder you twitch the more erratic it will be. It's not a glider, if that's what you were after. I have only had a follow on one but have caught a big bass and lost what would have been a personal best walleye on the floater. They also troll great too.

Try straight wire leader for increased action.

Definitely worth sticking with it.If you think of it as a shallow running crank / twitchbait you won't go far wrong.Pull it down a few feet & then
start a straight retrieve & throw in some, twitches, sweeps & pauses.
I'd go with the solid leader suggestion.

It's also worth checking out the other baits they do.The 'Slider'.. a jerkbait with a tight side to side turn. The 'Jack'..an up & down type jerk bait, & the 'Whitefish' a big minnow type crank.Awesome finishes.

I was fishing it more like a glider. I like the wobble (turns on it's side), but when I paused, the leader seemed to drag it down. I'll use a lighter leader next time fish it like a twitch bait.

Anyone ever use their pike bait? It sure looks good in the box.

Thanks,

John
