I"M READY!!! after seeing a bunch of fish yesterday with the rising lake temps.....the biggest follow was about 43". havent seen a big girl in a while. 5 of the 6 fish I moved yesterday was after the moon had rose above the horizon..Bucher has said that having the moon and sun both up at the same time is not so good....guess moon stuff isnt always on target but yes I am getting excited with the moon phase coming.

Only problem with this is that my job is once again conflicting with my hobbies... Then again...no job = no toys, and I hate fishing from shore.

It should be rock'n...

Sluggo called and is coming up this coming weekend, Theedz might try to sneak up during the week...

Greg...

You may see me there one day this week... I want another shot at that fatty from last year...

I think I would have liked the weather staying cold/wet like it was! Now you are going to have to go re-locate those fish and fish the oct. full moon! Mark my words, sucky!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So is it going to be Sucky? or is it going to Rock? I just read in an old Musky Hunter that a warmer trend in the fall will make all the fish relocate.

Does that mean start shallow and move out on the breaks?

Please advise!

I think it depends on the body of water. In my case I fish dark water flowages and I believe the fish will be shallow taking in the rays like they were during the last warming trend.

Maybe I will be wrong...god knows it wont be the first time....but I sure love getting excited about going.

I've received conflicting advice and want to run it by all of you:

I'll be fishing a dam-controlled chain (Manitowish) starting this Wednesday. Water temps were around 52 last weekend; however this warm streak may bring them up. The water is turned over and fairly clear. The drawdown is just starting (1 inch per day).

Some people tell me I'll find them shallow post-turnover, others tell me that they will be deep. Some people tell me the warmer weather will bring them shallow, others say deep again.

How is a newbie supposed to know where to cast?

Any thoughts?

Up here in Michigan on the lake we fish most, theyve been sitting on the breaks for the last week or so coming up to eat. Jakes and depth raiders have been very good to us. I anticipate the warming trend will move them up a bit more. I plan to start out by targetting the top of the same breaks theyve been on, assuming that they will come up to the warmer water to either sun themselves, or just to follow the baitfish which I anticipate will head for the warm water. Surface temps have been in the low 50s for us. If they arent there, we'll fall back to our deeper break patterns, and if we still dont move any fish, we'll head to the flats. Its looking warm all week for us up here, warmest on thursday, full moon on friday, plenty of time to find them today/tuesday/wednesday, then nail 'em on thursday/friday/saturday!

Curly-

Things are looking good for Wednesday/Thursday. If you can get one day that would be great. Which day works better for you?? I'll probably drag my boat up and fish myself if you're busy.

I'll call you tomorrow morning.

Ok guys here is the scenario, Shallow lake,( Damed and 28 feet deepest) Weed beds still holding fish,(some weeds dying and some still nice and green)water temp between 58/59 degrees, green coloration floating on top of water, up coming new moon with warming trend, any suggestions on bait type method of use and if trolling what speed? I am getting more time to fish now and am trying to really understand the musky better and am still trying to beat 39 incher. HELP. Sorry guys, am better at painting than catching the Biggies, If she comes big enough I just need a picture and messurements than she swims again. I will settle for a replica any day.
Thanks guys for any help on this.

If you like to fish shallow, work a bucktail over the good weeds, or just off the edge of it. Try to find some weeds that sit adjacent to a dropoff. Water temps are still plenty warm, so dont be afraid to bring it in pretty fast.

If you prefer to work deeper, a deep diving crankbait worked slow on the break lines could be the ticket. Fish the same weedlines, but instead of working in/over/through them, cast up to the edges from deeper water.

Twilight topwater over the weeds especially right where the weeds break and the dropoffs begin could be good also.

Im still a rookie myself, but thats where I would start. Then again, bucktails/depth raiders are my confidence baits. Good luck!

Here's what's happening in central MN, thur-sat. was hot! I know several guys that had multiple fish a day every day on topwaters and jerks. Most of these fish were over 40" and they were aggressive. Many fish following as well.

Warming trend started sat. evening, and the fish are completely turned off. Lazy follows coming in occasionally on topwater. Sun. and Mon. I trolled shallow and suspended, casted shallow and deep. Lost one fish right at dark on a creeper.

I think we are hosed until this warm sunny weather breaks.

Oh..No I might have been WRONG!!!!

Only got a little 25" dink last night, it was calm and warm...a wind might have helped.

Will try again Thursday.

We stuck a 39" on Monday, and got 3 follows and 2 twilight topwater strikes last night. Its been dead calm here also, if it werent for that, I think things would be fantastic. Even with the calm, I still have a feeling the big ones will show themselves soon.

well after this morning am confused...had em sort of pattern'd the last 4-5 ays.

been moving fish on the breaks.....tried to fish a little tighter 2 nights ago, as soon as I turned around and fished out I got a small one.

Moved 2 dandies yesterday morning that were well off the structure, last nite they were still off structure but deep and slowwwwwwwww, nothing up tight after yesterday's warmth.

this morning..nadda..zilch...squat...deep/breaks or shallow.
(actually both of us "thought" we saw something..but didnt get a good look, coulda been a sucker or something.)

The water temp hasnt gone up as much as I thought..only 2 degrees even after yesterday's heat. water temp this Am was 50.5.....monday morning before the heat was 48.5

after a week of moving fish but nothing big, 2 bigger ones showed themselves..not sure if it was the warmth or the moon or just plain time on the water.

keep chuckin!!
