| I know the lake. It's Lake X! What a fatty!
Actually, Freak gave more info than we got from some others that had a great week in Canada not too long ago. I have no problem with it. Just appreciate the nice photo's.

| Hi Mike, I understand what you are saying but Muskyfreak did say it was from a "SMALL LAKE" so I don't really blame him for not mentioning the name, depending on how small the lake is just a few meat hunters can do some serious damage, but otherwise you are correct why hide the name of a lake if it can take the preasure

Location: Winnipeg | Wow guys never new this would draw such a negative impact on my post! Sorry Mike for gettin your panties all tied up in a knot, but this is a lake that is small about 2 miles by 8 miles and have been fishing it for about 12 years and each year the fish seem to be getting a little bigger. When we first started fishin it I would never thought a 50" fish would come out of such a small lake but this year it has produced 2 for us. On average my boat on this lake will usually produce on average 3-5 muskies a day Without seeing another boat, so you see it could be fished out quite easily. I hope the others will understand. |

Awesome fish and great pic. Thanks for sharing.

Location: Chicago, IL | I just think that Mike Hulbert is being a bit sarcastic when he presses for info on lake name/tactics etc... I believe it stems from the other Hulberts receiving so much grief from not sharing the lake/river name that they fished with Thorpe...
If it was not facetious then he is just a big hypocrite and you can ignore him anyway.
Nice fish... don't worry about it. Keep the name to yourself and take advantage of it as long as you can!
My only advice is to keep your catches to yourself if you want to keep the lake a secret. |

Location: Angola, IN | I learned this lesson a few weeks ago: If you post pics of big fish on this board, jealousy will run wild. There are a ton of anglers who have fished for years and have never caught a fish over 45", 25 pounds, 48", whatever you want to make it. If you come on this board and show pics of a successful trip, the same guys who have put in a ton of time and have yet to get the big one, will get upset about it. They want to know "How and Where" you caught it. Because they want to get a "free ride".....they want the info that you have and they want it for nothing. If you just come on here and post pics of big fish and not tell the How and Where part of the story, some anglers will feel as if you're coming on here to smear it in their face. MUSKYFREAK, I know you didn't intend to do this, but this is how jealousy can skew people's perception. In reality, you have put your time in on the water, have done your homework, and want to show the fruits of your labor. I see nothing wrong with it. But there are lots of people who don't want to see pictures of successful anglers, because it makes them feel inferior....which is a bunch of crap anyway. Nice fish and nice pics, keep 'em coming. Jealousy is a crazy thing....but who can blame them. Who wants to fish like they are possessed all summer along and have someone catch a ton of fish bigger than anything they saw all summer in just a few days?? I'd be pissed too, if I came to this board and saw pic after pic of BIG fish, and I put a lot more time on the water than the people who caught these big fish did.

| TM, I thought I wasn't seein things either! It was there, then it was gone! Now it is back! It's a mystery to me!
Freak, don't worry about not providing the name of the lake. I learned a valuable lesson, and gained a freind(I think), last year regarding Lake X issues. When you find a small lake, and it has been good to you, there is nothing wrong with keeping it to yourself. If you want to say what the structure and presentaion is, that is your decision, also. |

| Steve,
Regarding your post. "One of the guys complaining in this thread fished all summer long, probably fished 100 days or so this year, and doesn't have a fish over 46" to show for it."
Guess that would be Mike? hehehe
Also, not sure why one would be pissed if he had put in alot of hours, and didn't have a bigger fish to show for all that effort. That would be like me being mad at you at the outing, because I fished alot more hours than you did, and you got the 48". As for me, I couldn't have been happier for you. Considering you were under the weather for a good portion of the week, I'm glad you got that fish. I think most guys here appreciate someone catching a nice fish and posting the pics. Only a very few are jealous to the point of being upset, and then posting shat. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | I think it is absolutely fine to post a picture of a big fish without listing the water it was taken from, as long as the rest of the details are there. How was it caught? What time of day? Is there an interesting story behind the capture? I would not agree that most of the anglers here a jealous of a big fish or the angler who caught it. Most are interested, and used to the normal 'news' process of who-what- when- where -why and how. When one of those is missing, that will create questions. If the angler doesn't want to answer one or more, that's OK! The picture and the congratulations on a great fish are what I think we are about. The geographical area MuskieFIRST covers in HUGE, so most wouldn't jump into the truck to head out to the honey hole where that fish was caught anyway. I have had many years where I didn't crack 50", and others where I had 3 fish weeks in that class. It comes down to getting bit. I am on good water, and if I put in my time, I WILL eventually get a big girl. No need to run all over the country to search out another lake with big fish, I already have that figured out. I'm willing to bet the rest of us here are not far off that mark! And, BTW for Mr. Smith: From a thread about the fish Keith and I caught a few weeks ago mentioned in your post-- FSF, no, it is a smaller darkwater lake two miles from my house. Tiny landing unless you launch at a resort. Great crappies and nice pike, too. Sabota would shoot me if I messed with his stump infested slough big girls on Boom! Look at a map of the area, Jason. Kinda narrows it down!

Location: Washington, PA | This is really no differant than the infamous "a small vilas county lake" that we all know and love so much. I have waters that I tell NO one about, simply because I love the fact I go there and don't see another fisherman but once or twice a year, and these waters simply couldn't handle the pressure. To each there own I guess. |

Location: West Bend, WI | Jealous over big fish pics? This is crazy!!!! I cut big fish out of the paper and hang them up at work.I love coming to the board and seeing big fish. The pictures are what keeps me going, as I have never seen or caught a big fish yet. So if I never saw other peaples big fish, I'd have nothing to strive for.And as for the lake-X,If I ever find myself one!! I'm not telling anybody.

Location: Winnipeg | Hey thanks guys for understanding, the fish was caught on a clear sunny day and the water was high 50s. Lake is a very deep (approx 140ft)and clear. We troll mostly jakes along the steep rock faces in about 16-20 feet. This particular fish hit in about 10 feet of water as the Perch colored jake was pounding bottom on a rocky point! The feed in this lake is mostly Lake trout, white fish and rainbow smelt. Happy fishin all....O ya the lake is in northwestern ontario and I fish out of Winnipeg,mb
