may be something here for you. The best book I've read on river fishing was "A Compilation of Muskie Fishing Stories from the Mountain State" by WV native Jim Wetzel. Talks abt old school river fishing on the Elk and Kanawha rivers. Not heavily instructional, but a real fun read. m |

If you fish deep, clear lakes (i.e cisco or lake trout type lakes), I think that you will find this to be helpful. Carlson outlines his time trolling for open water walleyes on Ten Mile Lake in northern Minnesota, but the tactics can be applied to any oligotrophic lake where ciscoes are the primary forage.
He has one chapter dedicated to walleyes, another dedicated to ciscoes, another to whitefish, etc.
I found the ciscoe chapter to be very entertaining, and worth the price of admission. I order a used copy off of Amazon for only $6. I think it was $6 well spent.

I think you will really enjoy the book, as it is very thought provoking. One area where I am not completely in 100% agreement with Bruce Carlson is related to what I am calling the "4th of July" Theory. Please see the other current thread entitled, "Clear Water Presentations" where I will elaborate on this... because it's a question I've been meaning to ask, but it is probably more "on topic" in the "Clear Water Presentations" thread.
Note: Bruce Carlson has written quite a few articles for In-Fisherman over the years if I remember correctly. And he was mentioned by name in the In-Fisherman Walleye "Critical Concepts" Book (Book 1 of the 5 part series). I will attach a link to that book in this post, but please see the other thread ("Clear Water Presentations") for more information (as well as another 6-minute video clip from Lindner's Angling Edge) regarding the "4th of July" Theory.

I second this. Anybody can catch muskies, you have to work for crappies. |
