With Winter upon us, this is a great time to get things planned for upgrades, maintenance and upkeep, restoration, or repair completed. What is on your "to do" list for your boat, motor and or trailer this year?
For me, it is a continuation of upgrades to the boat. New rocker switches that are back-lit so my old eyes can see which switch I'm turning on, and continue to sand out/polish surface scratches in gelcoat, and maybe try a couple of gel coat repairs on non-glitter areas.
Seems every time I run a rug doctor over the carpet, I get more and more dirt out of it. The boat was used strictly on the Mississippi before I purchased it, and being a 15 year old boat, it had a ton of dirt in it. I found my carpet was actually gray!!
I have trailer tires to replace after getting an alignment done on the trailer, and will be attaching a bow strap to keep the bow from bouncing up on the trailer. I've never experienced that before until this boat...

Here is a list of what I need to do:
1) New boat (to me), so I need to register it in my name.
2) Fix (or replace) the front nav lighting.
3) New tires and wheel bearings.
4) Buff and wax/polish. I've never done this to a fiberglass boat before, so I'm going to have to learn how to do this.
5) Don't need to do this, but would like to install the rear tie-downs that attach to the frame.

| 1. Clean boat carpet. I did this last year after an unforunate accident involving a 5 gallon bucket full of pike. All of them emptied themselves of stuff I swear they hadn't even eaten yet while I chased them around the boat. Scrubbed the carpeting by hand with a scrub brush and laundry detergent. Rinsed it until it was seemingly clean. Ran out of daylight before the carpet dried, so I took a shop vac to it. What I dumped out of that shop vac was downright frightening. So I'll need to do that again.
2. New bearings. Noticed both sides leaking about halfway through MN on my way back to CHI. They didn't seem to overheat or run dry, but I'm not taking chances.
3. Wiring. I have a few trailer lights that aren't working. Not looking forward to trying to fix that mess.
4. Tires. They look fine, plenty of tread, but they're pretty old. Might hold off on that.
5. New electronics. Not a "need" but the stuff that's out there now is pretty amazing.

| removed outboard recently to replace tilt tube bushings and will raise it to top hole (öne higher than before) since it goes higher rpm than i like and pretty shure i can run a bigger prop that i found this fall at a good price . |

Pretty sure my problem lies up under the command console, attached to the wheel. The cables and stuff all look pretty good. Being an old 96er, I guess stuff is just worn out. Never done this before, so I will take a look and see what shakes. |

Location: Eastern Ontario | 1.Trying to find a 4 blade prop for my 115 Suzuki
2. Sell my Bert,s planer board mast and mount 2 single masts behind the windshield on the gunnels
3. Mount extra attachments for my top so I can have it in its present location or mount the Bimini portion as far forward as possible when salmon fishing
4. Settle on a marina to berth boat for July and Aug salmon fishing before they are all gone
5. Try and fit 3rd depthfinder on console 1 graph 1 chart 1 sidescan ( sidescan unit will move back to bow when casting and run split down /chart )
6. New horn
7. Look into steps for trailer tongue fell twice last year

Here is a list of what I need to do:
4) Buff and wax/polish. I've never done this to a fiberglass boat before, so I'm going to have to learn how to do this.
Get a powered buff/waxer, makes this so easy. Apply a little buffing compound, work your way around the boat. Let it sit and should have up a bit, go back with a clean bonnet for your buff/waxer and remove the compound. Basically the same with the wax, just use less wax. A little goes a long way. Too much makes it more of a chore to remove as it clogs up your clean bonnet faster.
Get a bottle of detail spray (bass boat saver, STP quickmist, or similar), and use it every trip out. Dry boat with a clean microfiber towel, then spray the boat down with the detail sorsyband wipe it off. Will keep it looking good all season and you won’t have to buff/wax again until next spring. |

2) Install a hydrofoil for better hole shot with a heavy load
3) Install a charging port for my battery charger.
4) Move a deep cycle battery to a starboard compartment for better weight distribution. Battery is only used for electronics.
5) Order a Just Encase box to fit between my seats at the helm for more storage. |

On your #2...If you are going with heavy load, I would think your better option is a lower pitched prop. If your rig is set up correctly, the foil will be out of the water once you are on plane...it won't be doing anything...

On your #2...If you are going with heavy load, I would think your better option is a lower pitched prop. If your rig is set up correctly, the foil will be out of the water once you are on plane...it won't be doing anything...

I'm only putting it on for the hole shot. I have talked to and read reviews from enough people that say the hydrofoil solves this problem. Before I start playing around with props, I am going to see if an inexpensive solution solves it. Plus, I am only talking about when I am fishing a tournament and have a full livewell and a partner with all his gear. I fish by myself 90% of the time with a light load when it's never a problem.

I just put a new CD player in, so I need to re-assemble part of the bow when all this is done. Fortunately, it turned cold and snowy so I'm not jonesin' to get out on the water- yet. m |

2 - Purchase a new transom saver
3 - Install a bow guard/shield (maybe install a keel guard later)
4 - Install non-slip mats on certain parts of gunnel
5 - Replace trailer bunks (wait until weather is nice)
6 - Replace entire boat flooring and install vinyl instead of carpet
1-5 are pretty easy and won't be a problem. 6 will be a huge undertaking and time commitment. |

Adjust trailer guide-on for more snug fit

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Hydro Silex. It's incredible stuff, I used it on the boat when I got it home and it held up all year, beads water like mad and doesn't spot much. It seems expensive until one realizes it will coat several vehicles a bottle. Just spray it ob, wipe it around, let it dry and buff. The best detailer I have ever used. I expect a bottle will last me two seasons for both OFM Lunds and my truck. Don't use the wet application, that can leave spots if your water is not real good.
