I think daylight (photoperiodism) impacts egg development but water temps dictate when the eggs are dropped. Thus, I feel you can plan trips by the calender but then need to make subtle adjustments based on water temps (are they staging vs on the structure, etc.). I don't believe the moon has any affect on the act of spawning.

For the area of Northern WI that I typically fish in November...I have found that the cisco spawn almost always starts between 11/10 - 11/15. There are always a few "early birds" that move up shallow before that, but usually I see the masses arrive during this time period regardless of water temp. I have seen them spawning during this time period when the water temp is 47 deg and also when it has been 40-43 deg for a good 7-10 days before this...yet they don't move in shallow until this period. This makes me think that length of daylight is the most important factor. I do see a few more early birds during the colder years so water temp does have some influence on them. I don't think the moon has anything to do with the cisco spawn.

Yes... for parts of northern Wisconsin... But across the Cisco range it's mostly contingent on those magic water temps usually 43-40... And yes there are some early spawners and some later spawners
