What would you estimate your following fish to striking fish ratio to be in any given season ?

This season has been terrible for me. At least 12 to one. Or worse.

I would say most seasons it might be half that?

Does a fish following and biting in figure 8 count as a strike?

That depends on the lake your on by a big shot... One lake I fish maybe one follow to 10 strikes, another lake I fish is 8 follows to one strike

Varies by lake. Clear water lakes 10:1 or so. My favorite murky lake is closer to 2:1 average. Average 7:1 overall? I don't keep good enough records to be certain

Overall, I'd say I convert 80% of the serious ones and probably 10% of the low-and-slows/late arrivals. Varies from lake to lake and year to year. Some days there are fish following from everywhere, some days the only fish you see are the ones you catch...

As stated, it depends on the lake, the amount of pressure and the mood of the fish at the time.

I too find this variable

1. Vermillion - 15 to 1
2. Heavily fished clear water northern lakes in Northern WI- 10 to 1
3. LOTW - 4 to 1
4. TC Metro - 10 to 1
5. Minnesota Lakes (other) - 5 to 1
5. Madison Lakes - 5 to 1

changes every day/outing ... no matter the lake.. have had outings in Madison this year we moved 8 and 7 hit in 3 hrs. MN last week moved 87, only 12.. one day moved 4 and 3 hit.. just how it goes...
at times on lotw we can move 5 and all 5 hit, other days move 20 and 1 hits.. In general across all lakes I have fished last few years, I'd guess 20% hit that move on the bait...maybe 25%?!
