OK guys, here's the scoop. In this day of CPR, everybody strives to get a really good picture of their best catches...right? I thought that this was common knowlege, but I found out that the general public isn't aware of it.
Here's the story. Went to a house in town because the water meter was out of order. The guy who opens the door is an old friend. We haven't seen eachother in years. We talked alot about the old days and he showed me some of the new and old Harleys that he's working on and repairing and building....his line of work.
Then he tells me..."Beav, you gotta see what we're doing at the place that I work." It's a plastics place and they make all sorts of magazine displays and pamphlet holders and picture frames and stuff. Then he showed me one of the coolest things that I ever saw. It's a 3 dimensional picture of him and his girl on his bike. They laser cut the main object of the photo out of the pic and then it gets built up and mounted on about 3/4 of an inch on plastic..(in different colors).. and it stands out from the rest of the photo giving it a 3D effect.
I told him that I thought it was cool and that it would be great for fish pictures. His jaw dropped. He had no idea that muskie fishermen let all of their fish go and that they took pictures first. Walleye and bass fishermentoo. He had no idea about CPR.
Long story short, I'm meeting with his bosses this week and they want to make up some displays to show at all of the muskie shows this spring. You send the pic, they do the rest. It doesn't hang on a wall, it stands on a table or fireplace mantel. Get the picture?....YUK-YUK.
So, I'm testing the waters for him. Something you guys would be interested in? Guides, something you could offer to your clients?
You have to see it to appreciate it, but it's cool. So far they've only been doing car and cycle consumer shows, I told him that they are missing a whole new market.
So, let me know if you think that it's an idea that you'd be interested in.

I meet with them this week and will try to get them to get a web site up or at least a 360 mpeg or something. It's really cool. The only advise that they give you is that the pic has to be an 8X10. It should be shot horizontal with 50% subject and 50% background. If it's too tight of a shot you don't get the 3-D effect as well. You need it to stand out from something. I'll keep you guys posted. Watch for the flyers to start showing up at the muskie shows this spring. Sworrall and I will be talking over getting something set up.
Thanks for your input.

I think it's 40 or 45 bucks.
I just got off of the phone with the guy. The way that they have it set up, you need and 8X10 horizontal picture. I tried to explain to him that the majority of pictures that we take are vertical....especially if you want the feet and the hat in the picture. The way they are set up now, it has to be horizontal, but I'm trying to find out why they can't adapt it to a vertical picture also.....seems like it should be possible. This fishing related pictures is new ground for them, so I think that I have lots of explaining to do. The primary concideration is to have an open foreground and a good background. 50% subject,50% background so it has something to stand out from. We're meeting this week so they can grill me and I can do the same in hopes that they can be ready by the 2004 muskie show season. I tried to explain to them that most pics of big fish are not something that you can take your time to set up. Get the picture and get the fish back in the water as fast as possible.
I'll know more in a weeks time....and so will they.
