| Just topped off the tank while the boat was on trailer. After I parked truck & trailer, fuel started pouring out of the plug in the bottom of the boat. Fuel fill line and vent line appear dry. Can a tank rot on the bottom? Vent issue? Any suggestions would be appreciated, just landed in international falls. Heading to Minaki tomorrow. No damage to the bottom of the boat. |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | If there's a floor vent available remove it and use a small mirror and look at the top of the tank to check the sending unit seal. If that's leaking apply some gasket cement after drying the area and making sure it's clean, reinstalling the gasket and plate and don't over tighten. If a screw got run through the top of the tank, go to a hardware store and buy a rubber gasketed screw, permatex the gasket, run it slowly into the hole and let it kick.
If it comes out, a floor base might also be a possibility to look it over.
Hopefully no one mounted anything on the floor amidships anywhere or remounted the rear seat with longer screws, I've seen that several times.
If the tank is leaking from the bottom, it may have broken loose. No idea what year the boat is, so check that from the bilge with the mirror if it continues pouring out. Rare, but I have seen that on a couple older models. If that happened, drain the fuel and use a dawn detergent bottle in the bilge at a carwash, and buy a 6 gallon tank to get you by for the week.
How much fuel came out? If it's stopped and isn't still leaking, check everything on the top of the tank.
Past that, maybe call Tuffy Boats LLC customer service tomorrow morning. |

| Thanks Steve. It’s an 2007 and I bought it new. Nothing new mounted to floor. I have recently noticed a strong odor of fuel after filling the tank but it goes away. The top of the tank and the fuel lines always appear dry. It seems like the fuel is backing up the fill up line...? |

Location: Rhinelander, Wisconsin | Usually the sending unit gasket is the culprit. If not and it's fuel in one of the lines escaping, there's a hole or crack in that hose where it's leaking out which can be fixed with electrical tape for the week, wrap it well and tight and it should be OK if you don't fill to the top. Either the fill hose or vent hose, but you really should see that when you look the hoses over.
One other possibility is a loose hose clamp. |

| Is that sending unit gasket on top of the tank? The fuel lines appear dry but I lose sight of them under Corner funnel cap. Are the clamps right under the fill cap? |
