Sucker shortage

Anybody wanting to do some sucker fishing in the Hayward area may want to allow some extra time for finding bait. Last week we had a hard time finding suckers. We finally found some 12” ones at Pastikas, but we were lucky because the guy had just caught them and we were one of the first ones there. The bait shops were blaming a winterkill last year.

You should be able to find tons of SUCKERS (packer fans) around that area after that embarrasing loss to the vikes.[]

Happens every year.. Sometime angler from Hayward drive all the way to Minoqua to get them at Rollies. It always good to call ahead and double check the sucker population in the bait shop tanks before you drive up. Smokey's in Pewaukee still has plenty of good black suckers.

Sponge please be careful in the office! We know how sponges like to absorb things. Try to hold your breath while on duty, and no nose picking! You don’t want to be the first with butt anthrax.

LOL! I WILL start wearing gloves though since we are 4 hrs. or so from the Brentwood office + get mail sacks etc. from there + up + down the east coast.......Sponge Babe just called to make sure that I follow all safety procedures when i return for the dreaded SPLIT SHIFT...what bites is the fact that I have to empty 7 outside boxes + anyone can put stuff in them.....we have pulled out all kinds of stuff from those things including snakes, dead squirrels, ice cream cones + such....I'm off to do battle w/ paper + plastic......[:(]

This is pretty serious... did any of the bait shops give any indication what their inventories would be like in early November? I would imagine that they really start to thin out in normal years much less years where there is a shortage.

Odd.....guy on M.C. thought that suckers were scarce in the south.....the river below the hooch here is loaded w/ them....could it be a result from weed spraying up there or something? We also have a boatload of chubs; horny heads etc. [:sun:]

If anyone is heading to northern WI on highway 141, Bobwhite's bait shop just south of Coleman has a lot of suckers. I was there to get a pumpkin for my son to carve and was amazed at how many there were in their tank.
