All Budget reels have there Limitations, especially for Musky and hi resistant Baits that are used for Muskies, especially if you going to fish them all summer long.
I would suggest looking at a Higher End Reel but Used.
Lots of Good Reels 4 Sale here on this site.
PM anytime to discuss reels

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | Like already said, I'd try to find a higher end used reel. If you keep your eyes open on here and on eBay you should be able to find one for $200-220. It is a little more than the reels you mentioned but it will be worth it in the long run. You can also find brand new reels from discontinued models like Abu nacl, or winch for about the same price as a used current model and they are just as good. That's what I did for my first reel. I found a nacl on eBay for $210 |

It can handle pretty much anything except large blades. It can handle them but it will burn it out quick. But other than that it should handle anything else just fine. It's not the size or weight of the bait that hurts the reel, it's the resistance while retrieving. Unless you plan on casting giant crank baits or dbl 10s and bigger it should work just fine. |

Have you damaged one using it for tens?
I have used mine for tens, and not had a problem. |

I have had an issue with a older shimano that was around that price so I have stayed away from those lower end reels. IMO all reels get beat up pulling big blades (maybe not a tranx 500) but I have had problems with lower end reel before and I feel the higher end stuff is built a little beefier and can take it a little better. Sorry if I was misunderstood but I was not knocking the reel at all. I just believe that if you throw supermodels all day everyday on a lower end reel you may burn it out a little faster. But, most people don't throw super models all day anyway so there should be no issue.
And the question about a pounder, you will be fine as long as the rod can throw it. Jerkbaits are all in the rod. |
