Anyone ever use a bottom bouncer to drift or troll for muskies? I always hear stories of guys unintentionally catching muskies drifting bottom bouncer with crawler harnesses around walleye opener. Was thinking like a 3-4oz bb with a swimbait or a spinner with #6-#7 colorado blades. Possibly a good technique when the fish are close to bottom. Thoughts ?

I have thought of that before, but can't say I've tried it. I do use standard walleye setups for pike, and it works great.

Thought the same thing...Bottom bouncer rig especially for river fish in heavy current like the Detroit. I was thinking more along the lines of a large flutter spoon on the rig instead of a spinner rig.

It would probably work with a typical walleye type spinner rig tied with wire line, and use whatever as a bait like plastics or a sucker...maybe even a minnow bait like an original Rapala etc.

I know of some fishermen who use these with Bobbies for Fall trolling on LOTW. They do quite well.

How about a jig/Craeture, bottom bouncer/lead/plastic/blade!

Yes, if your talkin a 3 way system, It works!!! Caught many on all these tools. I pour my own Pencil weights, 2-3 ounces does the job for my applications. A #5 or 6 fluted blade, along with some type of plastic dressing...power worm/lizard/Fandango. I like to incorporate my own plastics, as I add floating elements to my hand poured plastics.

Yes, a very buoyant crank such as a jointed Floating Rapala, or #18 floater works well.

It Works, you just have to spend the time, and to apply yourself to all the variables. Depth/line out/speed....... all Factors!

Only 50+ I heard caught over opener on my howewaters last season came from some guy dragging a bottom bouncer with a crawler in 22 fow.

Not a bad idea.

I make a bottom boncer for trolling with bending the drop wire so I can add weight for different dephts. Use it mostly for trolling blades and dawgs and shallow raider. Keeps the weeds from fowling the blades.

I just found a muskie sized BB I made a few years ago in the bottom of one of my bags this weekend. I don't remember giving it too much of a chance though. I'll have to give it a go next time out.
