Location: MN | I'm in the process of respooling four CV30D used for trolling and suckers, and looking at using heavy (>100 lb) braid for a few reasons:
- Had 80 lb break with suckers
- Extra diameter may help with slip and wear at planer board attachment points
- Some trolling baits are expensive
What are the options out there for lines? I figure 100 lb master braid is the fall back - quite a few people report using that without issues, and the tests I've seen show MB consistently over its rating. Any feedback on the lines below?
- Master braid 130 lb
- Tufline XP in 130 or 150 lb
- Jerry Brown Line One 130 lb
- Hi-Seas Grand Slam 150 lb
- PP 150 lb
- Daiwa J-Braid 120 or 150 lb
- KastKing 120 or 150 lb |

Location: Chisholm, MN | I've never broken 100lb masterbraid. I'm not the expert on the subject though. |

| like kirby im sure 100 pound is ok,if it resist a pounder backlash it will resist any hook set ,at least if your drag is not too tight |

| btw kk have nothing to do near these brands, look the test ,50 lbs break at less than 40 no knot !it's like their reel i guess |

Location: Contrarian Island | while you likely won't break 100 on a sucker hookset, to me there are No disadvantages with using 130 to 150. you aren't casting it, you don't let out more than 10-50 feet of line on avg, it will last you forever, to me, going with 130 to 150 makes more sense on a sucker rod....
150 yards of XP on ebay for 23 bux, can spool 3 sucker rods w that. |

| I spooled up my sucker rods with 100lb Hi-seas 3 years ago. Been really happy with it. |

Location: MN | Couple add-ons since starting this thread:
- Agree that KastKing doesn't belong on that list. Some people seem to have OK luck with it, but enough tests have it breaking under rated that it's not worth the risk. People also report it's larger diameter than expected. So if you buy 120 lb you get a really thick 100 lb line. No thanks.
- I found a deal on 130 lb Master Braid and went that route. There are some 250 yd spools for $28 on Ebay:

I checked with Cortland and the seller is an authorized dealer - they are just liquidating some older stock. I want 125-150 yd per reel x 4 reels and this is about half the cost of other options. |
