Howdy,

My first fiberglass boat was a 2000 681VS and I caught a lot of fish out of it. As I reminisce about it, I cant remember the rod storage specs.

I believe it could hold 9 footers on the port side but cant find a brochure. Can anyone verify that?

Take care,

Ruddiger

I have a 2001 681VS. 8'-6" Rods fit with a bit of room to spare, so I think it's safe to say it would accommodate 9 footers.

I lost my '97 681 VS to a garage fire and the only thing I DO NOT miss about that boat was the cramped battery compartments. They were horrid! Nice boat!!

Replaced it w/a 2012 Z118 and everything's open in back! It's amazing the difference. Darn sure won't hold those longer rods tho!

Sorry to hijack the thread but I also own a 681vs. I'm trying to mount 3 rod trolling trees either on the rails or install tracks on the gunnels but as you know the gunnel is very narrow and cisco, and traxstech tracks are 3.5 inches wide to big for the gunnel. If you guys troll what setup do you have for your rod holders? any information would be great and thanks

I just went to double check how much room is available. I currently have a 10' custom along with numerous 9' rods in the locker right now. The 10' even has a little wiggle room. I would say a 10'6" could potentially fit.

I'm not at all familiar with the setup you describe not being a trolling guy but does making a nice wooden plate wide enough to mount your ciso and trax to then mounting that to the gunnel with some thought make any sense?

Dunno as I don't know your setup.

I have the stock rails with downeast holders right now. I'm looking to add a track system instead of using the downeast clamp on rail rod holders I currently run. Not sure if anyone else trolls out of there 681.

I have seen many people troll with a 681. However I have never seen anyone troll the way you want to. All the trolling I have seen was inland waters in Minnesota. It sounds like you want to fish maybe the great lakes? Run the boat and your tree's past a fabricating shop and see if anybody there has a idea for making a bracket for your rails. It won't be cheap but maybe it can be done.

Well yeah a little bit of the bay I guess. What were the setups that you've seen on other 681s? Just rod holder mounted to rails?
