Does anyone know of a lake X topwater color that is primarily dark (black, purple, ect). But not a solid colored body. I'm looking for a topwater preferably Lake X FB or cbjr that Silhouettes very well which is why I'm looking for a dark color. But I I'm not a big fan of hundred percent solid black Baits. I prefer something with some kind of color change on the belly.

Names of color or better yet pictures would be great, thanks everyone

And while we're at it what is you favorite lake X color

Black/chart for me too on my FB.

Check out loon, too. Classic pattern. Always cool.

I'm hoping my question here is not seen as a Hijack the thread, but besides size profile, is there much difference in sound out of the various sizes? I've toyed with getting one of these, but man...that's a lot of $$ to spend... Granted if it's that good the money is worth it...

I guess in other words...what sets it apart?

Thanks

Steve

You guys have any pictures of those baits with paint left on them? Are they just black with chartruce tail?

bigger profile which like anything at times they want... it's like why some days they eat a 6" phantom and other days they want the 10"... they displace a lot of water.. is a fat bastard different than say a chopper.. not in my opinion..they eat what we throw...

Black is my favorite color for topwater. Fat bastard, cannon ball jr., cannonball... color doesn't matter as long as it's black.

I bought a FB shortly after they came out, at a show in March. First time I threw it, I felt it was just too loud. Put it in the box, didn't use it for a year. Finally tried it again and right after I started went past a dock where a guy I know was sitting reading his paper. He said, wow, that thing sounds like an outboard motor. About five minutes later I caught my first fish on it. Companies should pay me to test their lures. If I put it back in the box quickly, probably will be huge success.

Team Rhino Outdoors has some really good colors of these. Gold dust is a favorite of mine.

BNelson- did you try to rewire that bait? Seems like a shame to retire a proven lure like that!

Ross’s Sports shop carries a big selection of colors if in stock. They are located near Lake X lures so they are often your best bet if you’re looking for those baits. They have black with orange tail, chartreuse tail, pink, flowage green, and red tail. There’s also different colored “loon” patterns and are basically black with another color mixed in on the spots and markings. Fire tail or the northern lights series may be right up your alley too.

Oh and I definitely think they have a different sound. I think it’s how they sit lower in the water but whatever it is they do catch fish.

Brad's started out as black/chart. Looks like it's now black/white. And to a fish mostly just white. Kinda looks like the fish wanted to eat it regardless of color.

color is the smallest factor whether a fish will hit something or not imo ..esp on topwater... most of mine are loon color but as that one proved, color didn't matter to the fish

As it’s been said a ton, confidence plays a huge factor in a lure’s success... pick a color you have confidence in and throw it.

Id have to say when it comes to topwater...it's all about the sound...

I too like overall black for the profile, but I really think the sound is what gets them...

I dunno man..
The latest Field & Stream features an article called "The Wise Guys" and Bill Dance states out of all of his biggest bass, most have been caught on quiet slow moving baits. He also thinks noise makes a lure less natural.
I know it's bass and he's talkin about sight over smell & sound under what i'm guessing are good water clarity conditions but.. Sheesh. If it were anyone else, I'd prolly guffaw, chortle, and/or pshaw but it's big bad Bill saying it!!! Kinda makes me think ya know? Ya jest can't question Bill in my opinion on stuff like this.
Unless of course Terry Bradshaw is in the boat..
