I need some new topwaters. I like throwing them by the ones I have don't work like I want them to. Any suggestions for some new ones? I would like to have one in each catagory.(tailspinner, walk-the-dog, prop, creeper)

I think most topwaters are excellent in their own way, you can't go wrong with Topraiders, Topper Stoppers, Pacemakers, Docs, Dancin Raiders, Jackpots, Slammer Creepers, Hawg Wobblers, Tallywackers and the list goes on. I have caught fish on all these baits and other topwaters not listed. A good prop bait like the Topraider or Pacemaker is probably the most versatile since it performs well from calm to very rough water....did I say rough water (can't stress enough!!)

Muskyboy,
A great tailspinner lure would be a Topraider or a Pacemaker. My vote for a walk the dog lure goes to the Giant Jackpot. The original and still the best for me. My second choice for a walk the dog would be a Dancin' Raider. My favorite prop bait would be a Topper Stopper, many, many fish on a couple that I have, it is great in rough water. Creeper type lure I would try the new Creepinstein sold over on Muskies 101 by Laura Morrison. I looked at the prototypes last winter and they looked great. You might also want to look at a Hawg Wobbler, lots of fish have been caught on them as well.

The top producer in my boat this year has been the Super Topraider, eight of the last nine fish boated have come on this bait. My biggest this year came on a Doc although I think the Jackpot may be better in most situations, Throw in a Boggerman Buzzer and I think you about have it covered.

Stick with the standbys as mentioned above(topraiders being my favorite first go to), but don't forget a few others that excel in certain conditions.  Globes are great lures for chop and dark water, Creepers and jointed creepers are awesome for a throwback or right at dusk on an already moved fish, large pacemaker is a good one for big fish areas, and good after dark, and the smaller walk the dogs like super spooks and baby jackpots are good river baits and good early in the year.

If you only buy one topwater, buy a Topraider. I just came back from a week long Canada trip and the muskies couldn't resist them at any time of the day. Just be patient, it will work. I had great success in reeling in about 5 turns then pause and countinuing this all the to the boat. It seemed to drive the muskies and pike crazy. I had a HUGE muskie come out of the water to hit it from the side. It missed and 5 cranks later took it from behind. Sorry to say it got off shortly afterwards, but it was huge and it was truly an awsome sight. We had luck with the black w/ a few green spots and the orange with brown stripe colors. Hope this helps.

Please forgive the shameless self-promotion but, we make a 5 inch bucktail buzzbait that we sell quite a few of. Seems like we ship the mojority of them to Wisconsin....but I know first hand that Minnesota and Iowa Musky like them as well!
