  | Anyone use the Tranx 300? Is it worth the extra money vs. the cheaper Lexa? | |

Location: MN | I use the 300. It has the same guts as the 400, so any comparison Tranx 400 vs. Lexa is relevant. The 400 only has a larger spool.

The 300 doesn't really compare directly to the Lexa 300 or 400. The 300ahg compared to the Lexa HD 300 8:1 has a slightly higher IPT and significantly longer handle (70 mm radius vs. 50). The expected result is a slightly faster reel with quite a bit less effort. Compared to the Lexa HD 400 8:1, the 300 has slightly less IPT and a bit longer handle; the expectation is a slightly slower reel with a bit less effort. Size wise, the 300 Lexa and Tranx are similar, while the 400 Lexa is quite a bit larger. The Lexa 300 doesn't have a great reputation for holding up to hard pulling baits, while the 400 generally does; the Tranx 3/400 is still relatively new.

For me, the Tranx is the winner. My criteria are:
- High speed + long handle for low effort
- Small size. I held the Tranx 400 and 300 before pulling the trigger and the 300 was quite a bit more comfortable. I palm and have relatively small hands.
- Reliability. One year in, the 3/400 Tranx reliability is TBD, but so far it looks promising. At the very least, it's a simple, serviceable design. | |
