Those words used to greet me every week when I was in 9th grade. I'd sit glued to the parent's TV while Johnny and his guests would perform for an hour in our living room. I didn't have a lot of interest in him at first, just tuned in to his first show because Bob Dylan was gonna be there. That's all it took, I was hooked like a muskie on a spinnerbait. Some crazy cajun named Doug Kershaw shared the hour, along with a barefooted girl nobody had heard of named Linda Ronstadt.
Over the years, I came to really enjoy John's music. When another of my favorite artists would do one of his songs I'd sit and pay particular attention. He really wasn't that great of a singer, seems he was always about an eighth of a beat behind sometimes, but his music was captivating and his delivery was never plastic.
I heard this morning that he died of respiratory failure. I don't believe it. After reading one of his autobio's, I know of his devotion to his wife; that after he lost his beloved June he just quit living. So, I did shed a tear of grief today for his death, but another tear was for his joy of joining his wife. rest well. m

I remember the shows very clearly. My Mom was a huge Johnny Cash fan. His raw vocal power set him apart from other 'country' artists forever. He will be missed.

Couldn't agree more. I think I have all of John's CD's. He got me through my rowdy, partying years. He will be missed. He was one of the last of his breed....the outlaws from the 50's and 60's...I think I'll buy a bottle of whiskey tonight...have a shot on John! Take care chief!

I am not a country music fan, but a huge fan of Johnny's. All of music, not just country, lost a great man.

Even as a Christian musician I appereciated his body of work. He was a genuine respector of all styles and realized that the moral intent of the artist can only be measured by the lyric whereas the notes on the page are largely benign. This empowered him to cross over into music styles largely scorned by country and Christian fans. I applaud him and celebrate his life. He was a demonstration of God's grace and his testimony will stand in spite of the many mistakes he made along the way. We'll miss you Johnny....

I change my name to "Sue" for the day. "How do you do?"

Mr. Ritter may not have been the best actor around but his show Three's Company was one of the first Jiggle (T&A) shows on TV followed by Dukes of Hazzard, wonder what TV would look like today if not for these pioneering shows ( No-Bay Watch, Man Show, ETC.)

My prayers to both the Cash & Ritter Families

Very sad indeed. We just did a shot of J.D. here at the office in his memory. He was the man!

You knew Johnny wasn't going to be away from June very long.

Didn't she pass away this spring?

More than a tear was shed this morning when my wife told me the news.  Many a late night Karaoke machine in the northwoods was graced by my rendering of 'Ring of Fire', or 'Sunday Mornin Comin Down'.  I've loved Cash since I was a wee lad as he has always been the 'real deal'.  From his early works like 'Hey Porter' to his more recent songs including remakes of Soungardens 'Rusty Cage' and duets with Tom Petty and Merle Haagard, he will be missed by all who know and love 'American music'.

I remember his show too. We used to watch it. I also remember as a little kid my dad playing his records. Sad day indeed.

No matter what kind of music you like Johnny definitely was one of the best. Seeing him walk on stage dressed in black would give you chills. His voice never changed thru all the years. I have 2 young boys and would play the ring of fire and they would scold me for it. I'd keep playing it and walk away and sneek back and watch them both singing the song. 2 boys I'm sure would rather listen to Britney, but just his voice would catch there ear. I guess we will be hearing a lot of Johnny while on our favorite Musky waters.
