Location: Illinois-Indiana | Well Shep, you did it.
With your post about getting three new reels I'm stuck on which new reel to put on my two rods I just ordered.
It's between the Morrum and the 6600C5Mag-X
There's almost a $100 difference between the two.
I've never used either one but have used the 6500C4's and the C3's before.
Would love to hear what everyone thinks about these two reels. |

The C5 Mag's are good right out of the box, then after a short time they are junk. I bought 2 of them before I went up to Wisconsin this summer and both had to be send back in by the end of the summer.
I do like how smooth they are, and the thumb bar is a plus. But like most Garcia's, they turn into trash pretty quick.

Location: Germantown & Land O Lakes WI | I'd go Morrum. Unlike Mike, I've had nothing but great success with my Abu's and can honestly say that they last alot longer than other manufacturers of the same price. I own both sizes of the C5 Mag X, I do not like where they put the adjustment tab...it lies right under my hand and moves constantly. You'd think the because this is a 5 bearing system that the gear ratio would be better than it is, but it's the same as the C3, 5.3:1.
I own 4 Morrums and think for the money, they are the best I've casted.....pricy, but worth it. I've had three Calcutta TE's and have sent all three of those back. I put alot of hours and abuse into my reels, I love Shimano spinning gear, but thier "musky" bait casters could'nt cut it. |

| Ralph,
I have both. I've had my Morrum for about 4 years, and it works great. Last year, I bought 2 of the C5's. I like them too, although I really like the Morrum better. They both have the thumb bars, and I have had no problems with either.
I fish alot, and I am confused how one can turn a reel into junk so easily. Mike, me thinks you are just hard on your equipment! hehehe I've had my C3's for over 8 years, and have never had a problem. I do clean and lube my reels regularly. Maybe that is why mine last. I take care of them, and tell them stories about big muskies! |

I have three C-5's and about a half dozen C-4's...some of the C-4's are 4-5 years old and the C-5's are on their second season. I'm on the water 3+ times per week and other than a pawl wearing out and drag washers every year on the ones I use hard I haven't had a problem..."knock on wood"...
I lightly oil my regulars once every other week, completely tear down and clean them as needed and over the years have been very happy with Garcia reels.
Smoothie drag washers help makes them a darn nice reel in my opinion..
For my money I would choose the C-5 and put the other $100 back in your wallet. Nothing wrong with Shimano or Diawa if you have the cash but for almost 20 years of muskie fishing Garcia has done well for me.
Just my .02 cents worth... |

I have three Calcuttas and was just wondering how the Morrum stacked up to them. Just ordered two new rods from St. Croix and need two new reels to put on them. |

Location: Villa Park, IL | I would go withthe calcutta I own 4 and have never had a problem with them.I also have two 6500 and have never had any trouble with them either, however for the money I believe the calcutta cannot be beat. While I do not own the morrum I know people who have used them and I trust thier judgement on reels completely they all prefer the calcuttas. Hope this helps. |

| Ralphie, if you go morrum make sure to avoid the 5600. The levelwind disengages and bunches the line up something terrible. I guess the larger reel has the levelwind. |

Location: Racine, Wi | Matt, on the reels the line bunches up, it sounds like you just need a new pawl. (I think that's what it's called.) This can wear out on the reel when throwing the heavier musky lures. I have replaced 2 of them on my reels, and not had a problem since. They are not expensive to replace, and easy to do yourself. If I can do it, anyone can. |

I would definately go with the Morrum 5600. I have had mine 3 years now and it has worked flawlessly. I have a bunch of other rods, but usually only throw the one with the Morrum because of how well its made. I know cabelas has the 5600 for $160 which is a price drop from where they used to be and definately worth it. I am picking up 2 near the end of this season for sure.
