As most of you know, I am a 5th and 6th grade social studies teacher. We just finished our assembly today, and I have got to tell you my kids brought tears to my eyes.
Hearing 127 11-12 year old kids singing "God Bless America", "The Star Spangled Banned" "Heros" and other peaceful and good old American songs brought a few tears to my eyes.
I just love the sound of hearing all my kids sing, and actually taking something serious for once. If you have kids make sure you show them some love today, and if you don't have kids at least try and make one smile today.
Thanks for listening,
Mike Hulbert

Thanks, Evar D |

Location: Lafayette, IN | I'm ashamed to admit it but, it took 9-11 to get me in the habit of kissing each member of my family and audibly telling them I love them before I go to work...every day. You never know when it might be your last opportunity. My 14 year old son is learning a valuble lesson through this. And he still expects a peck on the head every night before bed too! I'd hate to disappoint him. "Thank You" to all who serve our great country in the military. May God Bless America! |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | stephendawg, you said it !!! Love them while you can. Nothing better than having your kids come running up to you and say hi or see ya later with a big hug and kiss. Never should a parent or kid feel wierd showing affection. Keep it up, it won't be long before they are grown up and moved out.
Mike you got to love it, I felt a tingle when I read your post. You are a lucky man. Teaching is a very rewarding job. Ya the perks are good also.
My kids are 11 and 14. I know my time spent with them is winding down as they grow up. I took my boy fishing Monday and we caught 3 muskies and a walleye. Times like that you will never forget. |

Location: Illinois | Hi Mike, I can totally relate to your post. I am an Assistant Principal at a middle school and deal with discipline 90 percent of my day. Still, after seeing kids torture each other, I am never surprised at their cleverness, kindness, and maturity when times get tough. Today, all 800 lined around a flag pole saying the pledge. As a moment of silence was observed, not one student made a sound. The crossing guard, a veteran, came into the office in tears after the ceremony because he was so touched. Kids can be mean just like when I was a kid but deep down they are good at heart and show it when you leat expect it. |
