So I just got a new rod delivered today. After unpacking it I noticed that at about 2/3 the way up it has a slight bend. What would you guys do? Is it worth the hassle of going through the return process? It is a St. Croix, I ordered it through Cabela’s and it shipped from the manufacturer.

I have yet to come across a perfectly straight rod blank, or factory built rod. Most have a bend, wave, or slight corkscrew to them. Anything more than that shouldn't make it out the door of wherever it was made. As long as it is just a "slight" bend, and the rod is spined correctly, you'll never notice.

I've noticed that to but the wave is very slight. You need to really look for it to see it but if it stands out quite a bit id give st. Croix a call. Their a good company they will take care of any problems you have, usually very quickly too.

I have personally handled all my other rods before buying them. I always make sure the eyes all line up and the rod is straight. Will probably give St. Croix a call ASAP, hate to send it back but I think it will bug me if I keep it.

I've built a few rods and I agree that I've never seen one that was perfectly straight. "Some" variation from dead straight is very common, but if this one stands out as being unusual to you I would certainly give them a call. Chances are pretty good they will take care of you.

I called Cabela’s today and should heer from them in a couple days. Sounds like they are gonna send me a new rod and then have me send the old one back.

Is it a Mojo? SC is usually VERY good at quality control If you do not get anywhere with Cabelas I am sure SC will take 110% care of you on this. They are one of the best companies to deal with.

Not a mojo. Sounds like Cabela’s is contacting them and then they will contact me within 3 days. It least I am not using the rod now so it’s not a big deal to wait for a replacement.

I would send it back to Cabelas. They might send you a package slip to send it out at their expense... not sure. I know St. Croix will not cover any extra expense and they will not guarantee a new rod.

I recently bought a Premier from Cabelas and it was not what I expected as far as craftsmanship goes. I ended up keeping the rod... not wanting to deal with the process of getting a new one.

Sounds like we are all better off ordering direct - from St. Croix.

I own numerous St. Croix rods. All were bought via 3rd parties. Never got a noticeably bent one, but they have an excellent return policy. Even though I didn't buy the rod directly thru St. Croix, if I had the receipt and St Croix guarantee (it should come with the rod regardless of where it was bought from) St Croix stands behind there product and will replace a rod under warranty. You shouldn't have to go through the middle man with St. Croix (unless a policy change has taken change in the last year).
