Hello everyone. First post on here! Anyway, I recently recerived a new 8 foot heavy musky rod for Christmas. I’m looking into buying a new reel for it. I don’t live in an area with many musky lakes, but every summer I make a week long trip to northern Wisconsin to fish for these amazing creatures. I also make a 4 day trip in October to target them. Since I don’t have the ability to fish these all of the time, I do not want to spend $400 on a reel. Looking for something with a max price of $150ish. I’ve thought about Abu Garcia Ambassadeurs (C3 and C4), Abu Garcia MaxToro, and Shimano Cardiff...if anyone has any information or opinions on these reels or has any other suggestions, that would be awesome! Thank you again.

Watch the used market for a toro s 60 for that price range. I wouldn’t recommend the Cardiff or the C3/4 if you plan on throwing any bigger bucktails or big baits. Probably could find a used Komodo for that price range.

Nothing wrong with an old standby ABU, but there are so many new reels for under $200, that you should take a look at. Or, buy a used reel. Guys sell reels in great shape all the time here. I have bought a number of used reels from the buy/sell forum, and have got some sweet reels at a great price. Can certainly find something at your $150 price

Most of your quality 300 sized low pro baitcasters can be had for under $200 if you shop around; these would include your Diawa Lexa 300's (HD, WN, or original), Okuma Komodo 364SS, Okuma Citrix 364, or Abu Garcia Revo Toro S.

I would not start out with a used reel, you never know what you are getting.

You can get a Revo Toro S 50 for $134 from ffo-tackle.com, it's a reconditioned reel direct from the factory. I've bought several reels from there and all have been fine.

The ABU MaxToro is a very nice reel, and priced right.
