| So I have my first real musky set up. I have a Lexa wn 300 on a cabelas predator 8’ rod. It obviously feels heavier/different than my 200 size reels and my 7’6” Shimano EXage heavy bass rod. What is your guys take on balance between rod and reel? |

Location: Apparently where the Muskie aren't | Obviously balance is nice but I don't think it's really noticed when a 6oz lure is hanging from one end. And plus, if your not getting a custom rod there really isn't much you can do to control how it balances. Honestly, whenever I buy any kind of rod, bass, muskie, whatever, I never even think about the balance. But maybe that's just me. |

| Ofcourse its not gonna be balanced with a bait hanging from the tip.
The easiest way to change the balance point, is to ad a lead stick to the handle but.
The rod gets heavier total, but with the balance point in the hand, it feels a lot easier to keep in the hand when casting all day. Some people like it, some don't.
I balance the main part of my rods with lead sticks, my buddy thought it was a ridiculous idea to add weight to the rod, but when he fished my my sling blade vs his, he quickly changes his mind, and i had to balance his as well.
It also depends on what baits you fish, if you burn bucktails all day i don't think there is a point to doing it. But i use it a lot for jerkbaits and tubes, where i work the rod tip up/down/side-side, and it feels a lot easier on the wrist in the end of the day.
And of course a heavy musky pounder set up, is never going to have the same delicate feel of finesse bass set up. |

| Yeah good info guys, thanks. I think I will worry about if it becomes something that bugs me. Just something I need to get used to, as all my other setups have been light weight rods and >7 oz bass reels. |

Like the way it reduces fatigue for me. ^^^^^^^What Steve said^^^^^^^ I've had buddies pick up my balanced sling blade and ask why this rod feels so good and easy to fish. Not sure if bass pro carries them any more. I pour my own ingots into plaster Paris , then just add masking tape to fit the size of the butt rod handle and epoxy it in. Really saves strain on your wrist and forearm tendons....not only that, it also helps with the pendulum swing to help you cast easier, and helps with Rod speed when setting the hook.... nothing ventured, nothing gained!!! | The balancer that Steve is talking about is one of the better ones on the market.
I have poured lead into a scrap piece of rod blank and glued it inside the butt section on a couple rods I built for myself. I finished the rod with cork so it was never seen.
