| I feel bad for playing the Christmas card here but............
Questions about Vermilion. I have followed the get together threads with interest. Seems like the folks have a good time. I fish 1 1/2 hours north of there on Kabatogama, which is mostly a rock lake. I fish almost exclusively for Pike, trolling being the preferred method. I live 45 minutes South of Mille Lacs and fished that for years, again for Pike, rarely for Muskie. I'm missing the weedier bays of Mille Lacs and the Southern lakes. Does Vermilion have large weed beds? Would you say it's more like Mille Lacs or Kab.? I'm looking for real estate and thought I might look in the Vermilion area (won't be shoreline, can't afford that!) FWIW I don't fish tournaments so any info won't go towards tournament fishing. I'm mostly wondering about area's of the lake that would produce Pike and Muskie trolling. I'm not much of a people person so a lack of jet ski's, ski boats, tuna boats would be a good thing. Casino also doesn't interest me. In the spirit of the season and giving I'm hoping to gather some good intell on the Lake from people who fish it often like you guys do.
I should add I'm not interested in small lakes. I like 'em big.

Location: Chisholm, MN | Vermilion is mostly rock with a few weedy bays. There is a ton of boat traffic and houses and cabins. Not the place for privacy. You can catch fish trolling on any part of the lake but it’s not a numbers lake by any means. | |

Location: Hayward, WI | I've only been to Vermilion once, but I have to agree with the above posts. After hearing about how scenic it was, I was surprised to see how many houses and cabins were on the lake. Not to say it isn't a pretty lake, but you certainly don't get the feeling of having it to yourself.
We had to go West quite a ways to find much for weeds. Some bays had pretty thick, nice weeds, but overall it feels like a rocky lake. Not sure if there's too much for expansive, long weed lines.
Boat traffic during the week (cold weather on our trip) wasn't bad, but it warmed up on Friday and Saturday we were there and there was... enough boat traffic, including 1 huge, loud, bright orange speed boat cruising around out there. If you were looking for pure peace and quiet and getting away from it all, not sure it would be your destination.

| Something to consider about the Vermilion area:
Though Vermilion itself isn't quiet, there are several other big, quieter lakes in the area (within an hour) that offer fair to good pike fishing, with big fish opportunities. But if you like fishing weeds, the canadian shield isn't really a good area to put down roots. | |
