jackpot failure

this evening I hooked a musky on a jackpot. It was probably in the 33 to 34 inch range. After its first jump, it got off. When I looked at the lure I noticed the back hook and plug had pulled out. Is this a common problem for the jackpot lure? or was it just a fluke and how can I prevent this in the future. Thanks ande.

never had any problems with the jackpot. If this happens, it's a good idea to use a longer screw-eye or to epoxy the standard screw-eye in the lure (2-ton epoxy glue)

This can happen. Like Divani said, you can use an epoxy to keep it in there. You can also try the plastic topwaters that work the same as the jackpot, like the Doc etc... Less chance of the hooks pulling out with the plastic ones.

Thank you for the responses. I am going to use longer eye screws. One of my remaining muskie goals is to get a jackpot muskie. ande

I'd switch to a doc. No problems!

I lost a thick fish around 50" last summer when the screw eye opened on a jackpot. Had fish to boat twice but hook and split ring pulled out of eye when the fish was coming to net about 10 feet from the boat. Bye, bye hawg.:( I have heard of a few other failures with screw eyes pulling out also (usually with a large fish). I replace the cheap brass eyes with .092 stainless ones and epoxy them in. An awesome lure, but the wimpy construction needs to be corrected.

I too have had (2) different Jackpots in the last month that have had the screw eye open up and the split ring came out of the front hook. The only problem was that the (2) fish that I lost weren't esox, but dogfish. I tell you what, these fish are mean!! A 8lb. dog fish can do alot of damage!! Quite a fight too....... i think I'm going to replace them with Wolverine rings and see if that does the trick.

Too bad they aren't made with through wire construction. Have a friend who
lost a nice fish due to a fish pulling out the rear screw as well. Same guy lost a large fish on Eagle lake when it pulled out a faulty pin on a
Reef Hawg. The big ones will break your heart......and sometimes your
tackle.

Thanks again for the info. I caught my first jackpot musky last night. A 36 incher. I did everything in my power to lose the fish, but it was hooked good.
