Have to give credit for my dad on this one. Our Scotty flush mount rod holders popped the holder all the time when trolling. He came up with something very simple. He put two wire hold downs (the kind with the single hole for mounting, aprox 1/2" hole)and attached them to the two forward mounting screws of the holder with the loop facing the rod holder mounting hole. He spaced the wing nut on the holder itself with one washer. We put the holder in and used a 1/2" re-usable tie strap through the wire holder and around the gap between the wing nut and holder. You cannot pull the holder out that way. It does not interfere with putting the rods straight out or putting the rods down in the water. You can change the rod direction in the holder itself by one notch without trouble before you would have to change the position of the wire tie down. We trolled all day yesterday, no problems and before they would not stay in place at all.

Me 3!!

If I had known about this problem, I would never have gotten the Scotty's! I may still change to Ram's.

If I knew how to post a pic, I would. Trust me, it's easy, no extra drilling or anything. Has to cost less than a couple bucks per rod. You need two wire holder, one reusable tie down and a washer for spacing per rod holder.
