Location: North of Sweden! | Which of the two knots needed for a leader are you asking about?
I usually use ~220lbs (100kg) Platil Marine (mono) for my leaders and tie with;
***a perfection loop at the business end (I make the loop with a solid metal ring tied on the loop for splitring-attaching the baits to)
***and then the FG-knot (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nJkXuh6FyLI) to attach the leader to my braided line.
kind regards

Location: Contrarian Island | 100 lb or 130 lb you can use a double barrel crimp and they are strong as heck. I think 100 you can use a 1.0mm and 130 a 1.3 mm... just use a lighter, "tag" the end, pull tight and crimp.

| Simple clinch knot for attaching snap-split ring or whatever. Just 2ce around and once through.
Then a uni-uni to attach to main line. Remember when using high test fluorocarbon to only loop through ~ 3times. Otherwise the knot get's all screwed up. |

| FG knot or Sebile knot, (same same), to main line, Crimps for loop in other end. |

Location: Hayward, WI | I use a centauri knot and a crimp to clean up the tag. Google Lee Tauchen fluorocarbon knot and last i knew they had a good guide for tying it. I use it for 150 lb fluror |

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | When I ran fluoro, I only crimped with the double barrel crimp. I too would pull the tag end through, take a lighter to it. Once the tag end was soft and pliable, I would tap the tag end on a flat surface to blunt it a bit more and mushroom it out. Let it cool, then pull it back tight to the crimp, then crimp it. Never had a connection failure at a crimp.
A bite off, though? Yep...130 pound fluoro...

Location: Morgantown, WV | Scaffold knot. Very simple to tie even with very heavy fluorocarbon. Waste is minimal, only slightly more than crimping. |

| Centauri knot is great but had to tie with 130#. U get more wasted tag end with this but it works great. |

Try the scaffold knot....basically a Centauri with 2 loops instead of 3. Much easier with 130# and plenty strong |

Location: Clintonville, WI | Years ago (2003 ish?), Crazy D's in Elk Mound, WI had a "muskie day" and Lance Christensen was one of the guest speakers. Lance showed the group a knot he used for tying heavy fluoro leaders. No crimps needed. I used them for years with bucktails in particular and no problems.
I wish I could remember the knot and how it was done.....doesn't add anything to the post but maybe someone else knows what I am talking about or the long shot that Lance sees this and helps out. |
