| What does everyone do to clean the carpet inside their boats? I have heard of people using a Rug Doctor with the hose attachment and I have also heard of others who take their boats to the carwash and use the powerwasher to clean the carpet. What do you guys all do?

I'd go rug doctor with the attachment. Power washers are just that... very powerful and can potentially damage your carpet. Plus, that is a lot of water to drain and it gets into every space it can find. This promotes mildew growth if not completely dried out.
With the rug doctor, you at least are extracting the dirty stuff, which promotes a shorter drying time, no extra water in places you cannot reach, etc...

Location: Contrarian Island | I've taken mine to the powerwasher each year sometimes 2 to 3 x a year, no issues w mildew etc.. I vacuum it first...key is to use the soap setting first then use the rinse and make sure you rinse it really good, I pull the plug and then when back in my garage I put a fan on it, or if it's sunny/nice keep it in the sun a day or 2...

| Here's what I did after an unfortunate incident involving a 5 gallon bucket of eater sized pike that decorated the inside of my boat with excrement:
1. Hosed it down
2. Sprayed with laundry soap and hot water (I have a sprayer attachment for my compressor, runs about 90 psi)
3. Let soak for 30 min - beer time
4. Hand scrubbed with stiff brush
5. Rinsed until there were no more suds
6. Let sit in the sun for the rest of the day
It was still wet the next day, so I took the shop vac (carpet attachment) to it. Pulled about 3 gal of nasty black water out of it, which was shocking because it didn't look dirty to start aside from the #*#*.
Carpeting looked new when I got done.

Location: Foley, Mn | We were having the carpets cleaned in our house and my boat was parked in front of the garage. The carpet cleaner asked if I wanted to add the boat to the cleaning and now he's been doing it for the past 15 years. |
