Location: Elk River, Minnesota | Hi everyone,
I've not done a lot of fishing in the rain through the fall months, and am wondering what has been your experience with it... Let's say 3 scenarios... Temps falling (both air and water) as would be expected for the fall of the year...
Please respond to the following:
Steady/intermittent light rain:
Steady/intermittent heavy rain:
Downpour:
Thanks |

Location: North St. Paul, MN | Steady, Intermittent light rain: I can think of two river situations where we did really well on action and size. The two occasions were on different rivers. Temps were dropping in both scenarios as well.
Heavy Rain: I'm watching football, or smoking ribs (or whatever) - |

| Metro lakes anytime it's good when it rains,,find the drain pipes and there s fish there. |

| Seems like when there is a true down pour, it is often associated with lightning. So I don't know if the fishing is good then or not. |

| Fall downpours mean a scrubbed day, unless it passes then it tends to be hard for me, otherwise it's hit or miss with the rest of the days, as long as your comfortable go fishing. |

| VMS- I'm assuming you're asking about this weekend (rain all weekend).
On the lake that I mentioned is very similar to the lake about which I was inquiring (to you) lately:
My best two days ever were September rainy days. Light drizzling rain off and on, with a big soaker at one point. On the one day I only fished up until the soaker and fish were going crazy ahead of it. On the other day I fished before and after the soaker and the fish went crazy for 3 hours straight after the storm.
Big bucktails.

Location: Elk River, Minnesota | I've had late summer/early fall days where the mist and light rain has been great, but temps were sill fairly high. I have not had much time to fish as the fall progresses, which is where the question comes from... I've got to fish regardless of the weather...so if I'm thrown poor weather, it makes me wonder when to cut my losses and stay comfy, or get out there.

| Based on the large number of photos I have from my boat of fish being held by someone in rain bibs ONLY-the intermittent stuff is best based on my results. |

Location: Pewaukee, Wisconsin | The first light rain after a dry spell is a great time to be out. With this recent dry run we have had in southeastern Wisconsin for the last two weeks and a cool down with scattered showers the next two days......fishing will be great.
Heavy rain tends to turn the fish off during it but as it clears the fish will turn on.
Fish hard: Before and after heavy rain. During the light rain. |
