Is it really better in the fall?

I kinda like the summer time bite better, bucktails, topwaters etc. The stuff you get in June August and September. When its warm and the muskies are active and moving fast.

Why so the late fall noted for being so much better?

The fish might be fatter, but is it really a numbers game at this time of year?

It's been way better so far. Since labor day we have failed to put a fish in the boat only once. Several of those have been multiple fish days. In between the two holidays we only caught two fish. This spring was not much better than that.

There are many reasons why I like fall better than summer.Think about it,much less fishing pressure on most lakes,no jet skies and pleasure boaters, less people fishing, especially during a football game and I can fianally use some of my big lures [] .I love October, wish it was 9 months long...Good Luck,Paul

I think fall fishing is the same as summer fishing, I can't catch crap with the lake I'm limited to. 1 all year, been fishing with my boat since July, been fishing for muskie since June and I have one to show for it. But fall fishing does get boring, especially when windy and all you can do is troll.

Jason, I am of the opinion that the success rate drops in the fall because some of us are doing other things and not fishing as much. One of the reasons we think that the fall is better is, in my opinion, because it is the time when every once and awhile, you are the only one on the lake!!!!!!!!! The way it should be.

Call it the "old man & the sea" syndrome. I think we fish differently in the fall because the pressure is off and we slow down alittle, fish a little differently, more deliberately. I like to concentrate on a few good spots an work them thouroughly, rock by rock, cause I know sooner or later she's goin to be there, hungry............, then when I get cold I wrap-up and go home. Could be 2-3 hours in the late fall vs 6-10 hours in the summer.

Being from the south, the water temp get quite high and the fish go quite deep and often are off the bite. Went over 2 months with out seeing a fish on a local lake here in the "Mountain State". Fish are back up and the lake is all my own at times now that the ski boaters are gone. Still looking for my first fish of the fall but I'm seeing more and more fish. It's only a matter of time before the hog is landed. [:)] [:praise:] [::)]

I really think that the bite gets better in the Fall. Could be that the fish just move to the water that I am more comfortable fishing. I like the deep weed edge and the rocks, seems that the Muskies in our area migrate to those areas in the mid to late Fall. Love to throw those jerk baits and jigs this time of year. My partner & I got 5 and lost 1 on Friday afternoon and evening. About four hours time on the water. Didn't get out on Sat. or Sun. but I have to think that the fish went nuts on these days as well. Hope you guys can get out a few more times before freeze up.

hi. for me i like mid aug threw early oct. i find that these are true numbers as well as quality size times for me more twards that late sept night bite. but i have to give it to the fall for putting up those sows. not numbers its all what you as a person consider better. is it quantity or size you preffer i for one will take less fish for the bigger smile. but this is also my year round choice i will fish deep and in no mans land year round i have had my days of daippers now i want my hogs. and to me its a true test of skill and stamina and the never ending search for that perfect nervous break down.

for me this time is the best. Again I took a 42" northern on a small jerkbait. The northerns are way more active now and they take the lures fiercely! I practically had to operate on a 72cm one which had taken my trolled supershadrap in way deep so only 2cm of the tail stuck out of its mouth. How he did it, I don't know!! I like to fish in september/october/november for northerns because then I get the best shot at a biggun'. I love trolling and casting jerkbaits in the summer but it isn't very productive so far. All my 40inchers were taken in september, except my biggest one of 45".

I was thinking about posting something similiat to this thread, I've fished several weeks in ontario (5 weeks over a 6 year period including a week ago ) and have yet to boat a ski. I've trolled , casted , gone slow , gone fast , deep , shallow , etc etc and not 1 fish in sept/or oct . Hardly any follows either, I know you might get that once in lifetime hawg but one would have to think catching numbers sucks if you are willing to spend a weeks vacation every fall chasing them on the lake I fish, which is a clear cisco containing lake. I'll take july anytime over sept/oct. I've charted schools of bait with the big hooks around them and feel that i'm close but my patience is shot. I'm staying south next fall, cave run is great. I have caught most of my Wisconsin 50's in the fall. I am not sure why, but June and late October/November are my trophy windows here. I don't use live bait, so that is not the answer. I think I am just better at patterning the skis in the Fall than some other times of the year.

Then why do most folks go to Canada in the Summer?.

What happens to those Canadian waters in late fall?
