Location: Between a 10wt fly rod and a XH dawg rod | I have an abu 5600 C4 that i have had since i was a kid that i keep maintained. Over the last several seasons i have noticed that my drag system seems "loose" and i figured that i just needed new washers. I went online, got the carbonex drag washers and the cal's drag grease and thought that would fix the problem....however it didn't. In order for me to use my reel i have to tighten down the drag star all the way and it still only has about 70% of the drag as compared to my other 5600 C4. Any thoughts? |

| Personally I would upgrade your reel. I started with a C3 and C4 and lost too many fish. Granted that was 16 years ago but I don't think they have changed a lot over time. |

Location: Yahara River Chain | Did you also change the two curved washers in the drag system? They become weak if not backed off every time and over time. |

Ryan, Alan Tani and so many other folks run theirs with grease and recommend drag grease on carbontex washers? Why do you say they need to be used dry? |

Carbontex can be installed dry OR with a LIGHT coating of Cal's Universal Reel and Drag grease. This is the only grease we recommend. It can be used on the drags and everywhere else in the reel grease is desired. The majority of anglers prefer the greased drag system. All old grease should be cleaned out of the reel before re-greasing with Cal's grease. A LIGHT coating of Cal's grease on the Carbontex is recommended if you are likely to get your reels very wet, it will help waterproof the drag system. Very light means you should be able to leave a finger print in the grease on the surface of the drag. When it comes to drags more grease is NOT better! |

Location: Mt. Zion, IL | Because grease is a lubricant. Abu drags come dry for a reason. Their reels, yes I am a Shimano guy, have more drag force for comparable sized reels than any other manufacturer.
Grease of any kind will never increase the drag force... |
