I have a legend tournament big nasty with the full grip but feel that the grip is too short and I have seen people with their big nasty that they had the handle extended. Does anyone know how they do this and does it affect the structural integrity of the rod?

First off they do a great job. I have had several rod handles extended. I think they put a extra peice of blank or shaft in the Rod blank and build the cork on that. Structural integrity doesn't seem to be an issue with any one I have talked to. They must extend several hundred rods a year. I added two inches and a small flare to my nasty and it's a dream. I agree st Croix handles are too short!

Yeah I love the rod but you can tell having that couple of inches more on the handle would make a huge difference for sure especially the full cork models.

Take it in I think it's 30 dollars with a small flare. I only did two inches because im short but I have seen them extended 5-6 inches which is the max.

Seems to be very sturdy, nor problems yet, and the small flare is awesome!

I extended mine 4 inches. Removed about 4 inches of cork. Cleaned up original blank and wrapped it in rod wrapping thread then coated that in epoxy. Inserted and epoxied golf club shaft. Reamed out cork rings and epoxied them on. Finally turn down cork to match rest of handle and fill in pitts. Add butt cap and done.

Maybe i went a bit over the top making sure the butt won't split out or come loose but I've fished that rod hard this year with no issues.

Does it void St croix lifetime warranty on Legends when you extend the handle?

I haven't called Croix but I read once it does not void the warranty, but I don't think they will warranty it if the extension causes an issue. So if the extension is pounded in too hard and splits the original butt that would not be covered.

You might want to start a new thread.

As stated, it does NOT void the warranty. I sent one in last year that broke and it was replaced free of charge. You are, however, responsible to pay to have the rod extended again.
