Anyone ever hit LOTW for musky fishing and blank the entire trip? I'm not talking hurricane rain keeping you off the water or falling ill, etc.. Just bad luck and they don't seem to be in the lake.

Yep, Aug 2005 my brother and I got skunked during a 4-day trip to LOTW. Had big wind each day, switching from E to N and then NW and had a number of mishaps (e.g., trolling motor problems making things very difficult in big wind) and several dropped fish. I'd just as soon forget about that trip.

Never blanked... but had a trip where I didn't catch one north of 40". Long trip from FL to do that...

Had some tight lipped fish this year on Wabigoon. Saw plenty, including "the one". They'd be right on the baits, go round the 8s but wouldn't open their mouths. The days after we left, they went nuts.

never skunked but close... toughest trip was Aug 2004, lac seul.. 5 days. I caught a 43 and 41. Partner, zero. Other boat each got 1 if I remember right...both low 40s.. we got socked with a nasty cold front day 1 and it rained and was cold every day... we left a day early it was so bad.. hindsight 20/20 shoulda trolled
weather trumps all.

No...but it happens to more of the 1x a year types than you might think, as I've seen it many a times at resorts over the years. Even on mighty LOTW...quite common on Eagle.

I got skunked once on the sewer lake in Dryden in a 5 day trip about 10 years ago, left a day early...

I just got up to lake of the woods and our cabin partner said he's been blanked a couple times over the 40 years he's gone up.

I've had quite a few 'skunks' over the last 40+ years.A fair number on lakes that turned out not to have muskies. They don't count here cause definitely not 'premium' muskie lakes.

Yeah, up on the big "V" a couple seasons ago on a family vacation for THREE WEEKS. Saw fish but never rolled over a single one! Hardly got any pike to speak of either...a couple dinks.

Howdy,

Yes, it has happened to me. It first happened to me on Eagle, and then again on Vermillion. I even struggled on one trip to Pigeon lake in late November and I know that lake like the back of my hand. As stated, weather trumps all.

I firmly believe there is always some way to catch them, however, its not always possible to figure out how. The further down the rabbit hole you go the easier it is to get trapped into doing something that isn't working.

Take care,

Ruddiger

Happened to me earlier this year - It'll make you re-evaluate your commitment! -
Plenty of chances just could nor connect - My young partners did just fine to include my daughter's first 50 which did mute my disappointment - And I'm headed back week after next because at my age there's no telling which trip will be the last -
WISH ME LUCK - - - -

I just got home today and was skunked on LOTW this past week for the first time in 17 years. It was my "bonus" trip this year with the girlfriend and her two kids. I was there on my normal trip 2 weeks ago.

I didn't spend nearly the amount of hours on this trip with her and the kids, but we did some serious fishing over the week and didn't put a musky in the boat. I fished the hour before and after moon rise and set all week (when it was during daylight hours) and literally had almost no activity. I was dumbfounded. Completely baffled. When I got there last Sunday night we saw fish at 3 out of 5 spots. I was so pumped that the fish were moving. Then it's like a switch was flipped. I bet we saw 10 fish or less all week. I didn't see a fish yesterday in 7 hours of fishing. I thought that was impossible. The only fish we saw yesterday was my girlfriend's 10 year old had her first follow of her life.

I am not an early morning fisherman, and everyone we talked to in camp kept saying "you're missing out" by not going out by 7 am. I don't get up to go to work at 7 am, let alone to go fishing while on vacation

My two trips to Canada were very disappointing. Didn't get totally skunked, but the action was way, way lower than my expectations.

A weekend trip to LOTW - 24 hours of casting, two guys, two follows, one dink in the net. Felt like total failure.

Indian Lake Chain last year - didn't fish muskies super hard (family trip) but I was under the impression the lakes were totally loaded and any idiot can catch muskies easily. I'm worse than just any idiot apparently because I was skunked on 4 of the 7 days. Only 1 fish caught casting, then I cheated and caught 4 trolling.

It really stings to fall way short of your expectations when you have a lot invested in a trip. Muskies are never easy except when they're easy, and that's almost never.

Sept. 11-16 2016 - Lac Seul. Boat a 48" the first hour of fishing and don't see another for 3 days. A small window opens for 30 minutes and we see 5 and a big fish misses a top water. Then nothing. Weather was great with clouds light wind small fronts coning in. A fascinating body of water.

Last week on Eagle for me, raised 31 fish and had 5 nip and spit it out before I could get hooks in them. Just one of those years for me. Most of the follows would turn away after first turn in the 8. Was very disappointing and frustrating, but that is how it goes some times.
