I recently fished with Scotty Jaeger up on Eagle Lake. Scotty has an Elk River paired with a new Shimano Conquest. I have a 500PG Tranx on a Sling Blade. We started throwing 8's and 9's and Scotty had me try out his combo and I have to say the Elk River rod was SWEET. The Conquest wasn't too shabby either! LOL. Not an apples to apples comparison due to reel sizes/weights but that Elk River felt super light, plenty of backbone and very responsive. Beautiful rod! Might have to grab one this upcoming show season. Good luck!

I have 3 of the Elk River rods and love all three of them. Light, power is good and they are made well. I would hit the shows and get the previous years model. Save a few bucks. Can't go wrong with the Elk.

I'd say if you love your Elk River for the same purposes you think you'd buy the Sling blade for, I'd keep the $380 in your pocket and stay happy with the Elk River. The length and weight ratings are so similar that you might be splitting hairs.

I use the 8'6" xh 3-9 oz with my toro beast 60 geared low. Barely know the blades are turning. Let my dad try it this year on a trip and could not get it out of his hands...
