What are some favorite lures and techniques for fishing through thick cabbage weeds? Watched a Musky Hunter and saw them pulling dawgs through thick stuff. How ? Never can get anything even over the top. Any suggestions would be great

Haven't caught anything doing this yet but a weedless tube comes through nicely.

Get an Extractor. Goes over and through well.

Grind a slop master with quick rips works great

baby depth raider, file sharpen the lips throw it in and vertically rip it ... lip will cut through the slop and the action is pretty cool. used to do this on cold fronts and it's effective. i've also watched a couple guys win a tournament by just driving through a weed bed and then going back to fish the outside edge ... curious but effective technique by two guys who used to win consistently.

Cabbage on Lac Seul the unweighted Bobbie Bait was awesome in that stuff. Lots of big pike and muskies doing that up there.

Ill try burning swim baits right over the top if its possible or if too thick or to top of the water like stated above pull up a work them right down the edge of the thick weeds

Try a weedless version of the Mr Twister Top-Prop. It's worked for my fishing partner & myself numerous occasions.

Another vote for the Violent Strike Extractor, the most weedless lure I have ever used. Hooks up great, and you can literally ease the lure through the slop.

I was fishing heavy cabbage Sunday and was very upset when I realized I left my only extractor I own at home on the table would have been perfect bait for condition

Pearson Grinder spinnerbait or most safety pin style spinnerbaits. Try and choose a spinnerbait with shorter wire arms.

10 inch solid Believer hooked to the shallow eye and worked like a jerkbait. Because it's so buoyant it comes through slop very well. Dive it down into weed pockets with sharp jerks of the rod and if it contacts weeds then let it float up and the dive it down again. You need a stiff rod to do this though. With practice you'd be amazed at what you can get this lure to do and how thick of weeds you can work it through. Yeah I know, you look at it and think it would be about the last lure you'd want to toss into a weedbed but it works very well due to how buoyant they are.

you can fish a lot of lures through thick "clean cabbage" .. if there is other junk weeds mixed in not so much... pounders through cabbage is deadly.

Thanks!! But I didn't give away all my Believer secrets. lol But I expect most of the old timers will know.

Sometimes the old tried and true lures still work.

While I only met Mr. Johnson once and have never fished with him I must say he's the man who got me started with the Believer in weeds. So I give him credit and thanks

Repeat above statements with 10" unweighted Suick, at least for contacting the weeds. If you need to get IN them, grinder spinnerbait, weedless spoon, or swim jig.

Can't believe nobody'mentioned a Rad Dog,,,still an excellent choice on hot, calm, bright days to troll one right through the cabbage, single spin or flatten the small blade on the dbl spin for more vibration.

Very buoyant twitch baits. Crank (slowish) till you make contact with weeds, give it slack and rip it hard and pause. Use a lighter gauge straight wire leader and you'll cut through the weeds. Repeat the rip and pause if the first one didn't clean the bait. It's pretty slow and methodical but it works really well in midsummer.

Me too. Small topwater, like a Cisco Kid or if you prefer no props then the SS Shad works well for this boy.

My buddy loves the Believer in thick cabbage. I think he read it in Dicky P's book.

Anyways, I thought he was nuts until I saw a 48" musky shoot straight up and almost upside down and hammer his Believer in a cabbage patch on LOTW.

Pardon the pun ... but after seeing that, it made me a believer!

I really like a 10" suick in heavy cabbage.  A slow and patient retrieve, not ramming the bait into the weeds, and then letting it back off.  Comes through surprisingly weed free.  Deadly.

Remove the hooks off a Suick & put on a couple NeverSnag treble hooks. You can throw it into really thick cabbage & it comes out clean.
