| This year has been tough to figure but I''ve come up with the most consistent pattern for muskies. SUSPENDED! So far the shallow bite for me has had a very short feeding window, sometimes lasting only 30 to 45mins. or so, that window I''ve found is morning and evening! after about 10a:m I''m heading out over deeper water with crank-baits and jerk-baits. Check out 7Islands report, it has some great advice on main lake fishing presentations. As of yet the nite bite is slow but hopefully should pick-up soon! Just last week in a 30 hour time frame I fished 26 hours (getting to old for that anymore) I just wanted to figure out the best feeding windows, and by far my best assumption is suspended especially for your larger fish! I have people asking me why the fish are relating over deeper water so much this year. Fishing suspended muskies is not un-common for this time of year, what is strange however is the lack or short shallow bite. I have alittle bad news at least for my area, we didn''t get a good spawn out of some of the larger and deeper eco-systems this year (thank mother nature for that) my boat has taken 3 fish 39, 42,44inchers in the last couple of weeks over deeper water that when lifted for pictures were dropping decaying spawn all over my boat, that could be the reason alot of the fish are relating to deeper water so much at least thats my guess, alot of people are blameing the lack of weed growth on some of our lakes and a few weeks ago I would have agreed but now our weeds are pretty much right on pace and there are some lakes that as of now are so weed choked and the best bite there is suspended that I don''t know if I can still blame the poor shallow bite on that anymore. I hope this info helps my muskie brethren put more fish in their nets.

| Chuck..thanks for the Vilas update, We are going up the end of July. In late June my brother in law didnt catch a ski until he started throwing depthraiders in 20' of water. Maybe you are on the something with the suspenders. | |
