Have been doing a fair amount of reading on here about a canadian musky trip. The trip could be from anytime in July or August. I was pretty set on Lake of the Woods. I had considered Eagle but had heard it can be very tough and I dont consider myself to be a very great musky fisherman. A local musky guide makes trips to Eagle and told me things about it that now has me leaning Eagle. The biggest turn off I have heard about LOTW is that it has become very popular recently and has less of a canadian type trip feel to it. I dont have to be alone. But if I consistently have people fishing a spot I want to fish then that takes away from the Canada experience in my opinion. Wondering your guys thoughts on this. I want to commit to learning a section or the way a lake fishes. So if I go Eagle one year, Ill probly stay with it instead of trying something else. I am open to hiring a guide the first day or 2 to cut down some learning curve. Thanks

Don't believe all you hear. LOTW is BIG and you will have areas all to yourself with no pressure. For every boat you see fishing muskies on a spot, there are hundreds more spots for you to choose. Many boats are fishing walleye or in transit to and from resorts so they won't be a factor. You have so many spots to fish from that you can't cover them all even if you wanted to. Keep reading and learn more about muskie fishing on LOTW. You will catch some dandy northern pike too. Reeds, rocks, humps, sandy bays, weeds, rock walls, saddles, islands, wood, lilly pads, etc, are all there and most, you will have to yourself. I haven't fished Eagle and I've heard good things about it, so it's your choice. LOTW is and feels Canadian so you won't be disappointed if you choose to go there. I've been to Sabaskong Bay for three years in a row in mid-August at peak time and have NEVER felt pressured at a spot to share with another. If I do, it's my choice to join that boat, but at a respectable distance and heading in the opposite direction. In three years, I feel less and less pressure to travel long distances to find a fish. My brother and I dedicate a couple hours each day to exploration and have developed a very productive milk run of spots that are all within 5 miles of our resort. Usually we head out to the far reaches on one day, but why spend time in transit when I know where big fish live closer to home?

You won't go wrong with either, really. If you go to Eagle you should hire Cal Ritchie.

I've been to LOTW in July and haven't found it all that crowded. It's a giant piece of water.

I've been to LOTW (Sabaskong bay/morson area) and Eagle lake (Andy Myers Lodge) and can say that both are unbelievable. However, if I had to choose one of the two, it would be Eagle hands down for me, especially for what you are looking for. IMO there is no where near the pressure on Eagle as there is on LOTW now a days. I've been seeing more pressure the last 5 years on LOTW in the sab bay/morson area than ever before (specifically musky fishing). Now is it WI, metro MN area bad, heck no. Just not as secluded as Eagle. Eagle can be tough at times, but they do have some absolute giants. Can't go wrong either way, but I prefer Eagle. Good luck!

I can say late July- August has had a lot of pressure on Eagle. Had some days where I looked and every major spot had someone casting musky. Was at the woods and had hardly any pressure in comparison. Just my opinion... Either one is a great choice, just hit or miss with area pressure.

Been to Eagle 4 times but have found a home on LOTW. Enjoyed Eagle but love seeing a ton of fish every day. Been going to LOTW for the last 8 years or so and because of our resort choices, do not see the pressure that others are seeing, can fish most days without actually seeing another boat fishing our area. I agree with the other posts that you will not be disappointed with either choice. Good luck with your planning and enjoy the trip, that is what it is really about.

I have fished both Eagle and LOTW. Both are tremendous fisheries and are a great Canadian experience. Both have their crowds. Eagle can be a tough SOB at times, but the next cast could be a trip maker for sure. You really have to fish them both and see which one grows on you the most. I tried Eagle back around 1997, have been fishing it ever since. I loved LOTW, but not as much as Eagle.

Pressure has grown on LOTW, but not to the point where it should make you skip it on a trip. I personally would never book a trip in the Angle again that went up against the MH school (which can coincide with a MI group outing too). That was indeed ridiculous the last time I did it. I DID think the pressure in Morson last August was a bit much, as we did 3 days in that area and constantly bumped heads with other boats. I think staying as centrally located as possible is a good rule of thumb if you seek to avoid pressure as much as possible.
