41.5" Lac Seul west end, fishing for them on a 6" walleye phantom (softy)...(RIP 6" wood walleye phantom - I truly miss you!)

Probably only around 28" fishing for muskies. Nothing memorable anyway.

I remember mine! December 13, 2003, 20 degrees, 0 wind chill, had ro search a ramp on a lake that wasn't froze over. No bump board but a fast vetlrtical measurement was 44" i wish i held the fish better this pic doesn't show the belly, as my dad put it, there is a 5lb fish in it's belly. I could not feel my hands in this photo. Caught in a state you might never expect.

Ive caught more pike musky fishing than i have muskies, 4 over 35" one 41" on the ottawa river. caught all on bucktails, and weirdly in water less than a foot deep.

40-something from LOTW. Same deal as this guy, and was also fishing with this guy too. Crushed a 12" weighted suick.

45" northern and 30" walleye out of AML in 2015. The northern ate a 9" granny and the walleye ate a walleye colored DDD haha. It seems every year we will catch a big walleye on a suick fishing the weeds on Eagle as well.

46" northern pike caught on a giant tandem spin, nickle blades w/ a single treble tied w/black hair and a white curly tailed grub teaser on my first ever muskie trip and first ever trip to Canada. Caught on Wabigoon 30 years ago this year. We stayed at Bonnie Bay Camp when Dieter owned it. I cast the bait to within about 18" of the shallow shoreline, actually on one of the lakes off Wabigoon, and within two cranks and felt the first rotations of the blades, she SLAMMED it. Memorable too for being the pike that bit through a leather glove as I was trying to unhook her. My hand has never been so shredded and bloodied. I've never come close since then. Never did catch a muskie on that trip. Not only did I get bit, this trip is when I seriously became "hooked". on fishing. Many great memories still relived often among the whole crew from that trip. Been a long time since Ive been there but would love to get back again.

It's got to be the disappointment, because I would love to catch a 45" pike. I catch a bunch of smaller 30" ones at some places a I fish and they put up a great fight, especially on bass tackle.

Nope, buddy still gives me crap for shaking of a 38"ish pike while on the V this year. There is nothing worse then thinking you have a muskie on only to be disappointed when it turns out to be a pike, unless its a good pickling size.

Also those darn things always hammer my suick and bend the crap out of the leader.

That seems crazy to me that you wouldnt get excited about catching a 44" pike...... i mean come on i get that its disapounting to not be a musky, but just think that most anglers (even pike anglers) wont ever catch one that big

My buddy caught a 36" ish dogfish this weekend in Northern WI. Hit a bucktail, got it netted. There are no northern in the lake we were fishing, so we were surprised discover what it was upon unhooking the fish.

Thought it was a small musky at first. Turns out it was a WI State Record bowfin.

Both.

I can't explain it, but it's a real shot to the gut when you think you have a decent musky on and then see those #*^@ white dots pop up on the surface. They always seem to come at a time when you are really dying to get a musky too..

We were talking about how big that dogfish was the next day. I said I'd never seen one that big and decided to look it up. That's when we realized what we threw back.

Nice "Tasters Choice moment between guys." Good arm hold of the guide.

Nice catch on the arm hold. That guide (or buddy) is worth his weight in gold.

Maybe that makes it into the "not allowed on my boat" thread......"my fishing partner wouldn't even help me hold my arm out for the pictures..."

Only thing that would make it better would to see his right arm around his waste "supporting" the guide.

39" on Eagle at a place i nickname "the nursery". it's the first place i go on each trip to put a fish in the bag. i had a habit of picking fish out of it and just getting the rust off of the trip and getting a start so catching the incidental pike wasn't a surprise. one particular trip though i continued a few casts past the spot and fished over the sand it the bay connecting it and saw one of 3 blonde giants i'd seen there after fishing it for many years. i learned 1. don't be surprised when you see a big, fat mother in a nursery and 2. the value of fishing sand in September!!

My biggest northern pike were caught fishing for northern pike not musky's. They were caught in the Hudson's bay lowlands vis fly in excursions. No musky's up there. I'm not that concerned with photos so I never have a camera. If someone else does fine, if not fine to. My biggest was 43" ~ 25 pounds a real chucker. Here's a a picture of one taken 3 years back about 41".

Do you guys not like catching pike or whats up with that?? or is it just the disappointment of thinking you got a Muskie and its a Pike?? I love Musky Fishing But would have no issue at all catching Pike this size while out Muskie Fishing..always wondered this seems lots of guys on here dont like catching Pike

All Esox are great! Tigers, Pike and pure-breed Musky's. Honestly I've only heard the term snot-rocket used for those annoying snake-like hammer handles before reading this post. I only prefer musky's because of the potential for greater size. All things being equal I think they may have a slight edge in the fighting department, but this is defiantly dependent upon the fish.

This is a real snot rocket. Pickerel is the meanest esox of them all. His sharp little teeth can destroy expensive musky lures. Even the little ones will hht an 8 inch bait. Every time I think it's a musky.

Pickerel are very mean but after dealing with some Amur pike, I think they may be the meanest esocid. My smallest Amur hit a Crazy Crank Rumbler that was way thicker and almost half the Amur's length.

Amur River basin in Russia's Far East. It was a bucket list fish, and since I've been diagnosed with bone cancer, I decided to do it while I was still physically able. I'd have a pike slam if they hadn't added 2 species in Europe recently. I hope to upgrade my redfin pickerel this year as it was very small, unlike my grass pickerel which was huge at 14".

Honestly, I couldn't care any less about a pike. Even a big one. It's just not exciting to me. I take a picture of a really big one now and then because I feel obligated! LOL! It's all slime, whether it's 24" or 44"!

Been a long time since my last post on M1.  I've had some fun with a few 40"+ Pike while on LOTW.  I can't get crabby at a big pike for wanting to visit my old boat!  Here's my best one at 42".
