This year I started using my 1st 8 foot rod with a bit of backbone. It sure makes casting so much easier than with my previous 7' or 7.5' rods. Just wanted to let everyone know that this is one of the best buys I've made.

Longer is definatly the way to go. I went 8'9" and my next is going 9'8"

I have trouble with all the 7'6" rods in my boat. If I were to go 8' I'd prolly end up trippin' over 'em all...

That said, I'm really curious for the casting aspect. Hmmm..

Didn't want to go to long. Like using the same rod for jerk baits, spinners, cranks etc. hate switching rods.

I prefer having multiple rods, but because of money and me being fairly new to musky fishing I thought my 8'9" was a good compromise, and that it would do everything effectively. And it does do everything great. I couldn't ask for a better all around rod. I even think that after I get more rods I will make this my dedicated jerkbait rod. Might even bump it up to 9' for jerkbaits. Once you get used to the longer rod and working baits to the side, there is nothing but advantages to a 9 footer.

good idea you had there...I started with a 7ft triumph and then went to 7'6" msky mojo then 8ft legend to 8'7 omen rod to a 9'6"XH Predator and Longer is way to go except for Jerk bait rod I love the 7"6" for that...but once you go 9" plus you never go short again
