Anyone ever tried these hooks or similar weedless trebbles? Considering trying a few on some topwaters to get a bait i can throw in the stuff that barely touches the surface.

They look like they would work good but it makes me nervous.

Ideas?

Give them a shot. They can't be that expensive. I don't know how strong the little plastic ring is but in the photo, the hook on the left looks like the wire is really long and that the only way it would be effective is if that plastic peice breaks off every time you catch a fish. I could be wrong. I'm sure you wouldn't have any problems getting hooks in the fish but I think you would ruin your hook every time you catch one. But, I could be wrong. I'd get a few and see how they feel.

If you want something weedless look into the bait that is basically just a worm behind a colorado blade (forgot the name). Or for a topwater maybe even try that savage gear duck. You can make it weedless and bass like the small one so I don't see why a muskie wouldn't want a duck.

Edit: the bait that is a worm and a colorado blade is called a "extractor"

The plastic tubing is only there for packaging. Weedless trebles work in certain situations dictated by weed type, milfoil can't be stopped but the more crunchy weeds stay off pretty well. A weedless hook doesn't appear to impact hooking percentage. The problem is that finding an appropriate size weedless treble isn't easy and you'll probably have to make your own.

Ahhhh, that makes more sense. I wasn't seeing how the plastic tube worked. Lol. It depends how stiff the wire is, what type of weeds, speed of lure etc.

The wire only needs to be stiff enough to deflect the hook away from the weeds.
