Location: MN | The only potential drawback to leaving a star drag snugged down is you might "flatten" the spring washers. You could easily pop the handle and star drag off and check them. If you don't get some semblance of the () or )( look then you might replace them, which will give you a little more pressure. |

I would think being kept in climate control would help instead of lets say in a garage or storage shed without climate control when reel going into sub 0 temps and spring locked down smashed would think could cause some issues over long periods of time or say extreme heat couldnt be good either maybe Im wrong...Not to mention humidity Dew, etc...might get moisture inside reel and then Freeze could cause major problem I would think |

For under $15 you can install a set of
CARBONTEX WASHERS from Smooth Drag
That will last the life of the reel.
Your reel should be find just back off the drag
And let your washers reform.

| I've never had drag washers fail, but then I keep the stock ones clean and loosen the drag after every day on the water. Once a season I flip them around and change the order so if they are wearing it's at least even. The reels I have with carbontex washers get a cleaning and a little drag grease and are good to go. I'm not a crank-down-the drag guy to begin with, so maybe they're all right. |

Your right stock fiber drag washers never fail !!!!
But they become very Jerky when the drag is used after a year of use.
I replace all stock fiber drag washers with CARBONTEX WASHERS
They are so much more predictable, will not jerk and have a higher
Stopping power, and will last the life of the reel over any stock fiber washers.
Now lots of newer reels have them from the Factory.
Most CARBONTEX kits are under $15.00

Drag washers...
